ordered my S this morning. after driving the demo car with salesman enthusing 'take it to the red line if you want'. i think he knew it wasn't going to be a hard sell by the grin on my face.. anyway, just wanted to tell everyone! My spec:
DS/B
Chilli with the black half-leather
Sroof
CD + boost
Delivery date tbc on Monday, October quoted.
YEEE-HAW!!!
nb. 7%apr - so i can afford Works next year! I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of standard S today, after reading all the reviews that say the gearing is too tall and it's not as pokey in town as people expected. Works is going to be crazy fast.
Congratulations also, Rav. Spec'd and ordered my S this morning too, after taking my 2nd test drive. Like you, I don't understand all the fuss about over tall gearing. And as for some of the posts about how hard it is to get the car moving in first - Huh?? I had no problems. The only thing I found was that it was quite difficult to make a smooth gearchange from 6th to fifth and fifth to third, and this was a 2500 mile demo car, so hopefully another few thousand miles will sort this out. Did you find this too?
I'm sorry to inform you that you are about to come down with a bad case of "spec quandary syndrome" as you spend the next couple of months monitoring MINI2 and wondering if the spec you have chosen is the right one, changing it a couple of times having been tempted by great pictures of alternative colours etc.
There is no known cure!
Helps pass the time waiting for the actual car though...
Was also pleasantly surprised by my first test drive yesterday (as posted elsewhere on this forum). Liked every bit of it except maybe the slow throttle response.
No problem whatsoever with the gearing and/or shifting
Well done PAV, you can now join the ranks of us counting down the days, hours and minutes until we take delivery
I see you've decided on DS/Black, good choice
MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter
Nice to see others joining the fold. Its the wait that really takes it out of you!!
I had a 2nd test drive yesterday and was actually beginning to think the car was not that quick, had a bit of fun with a Renault 5 GT turbo and realised how deceptive the S is. About a week to go until I get my EB/white and I'm not sure I am going to cope...
5 test drives (maybe more - I'm losing count) and I've finally signed. Or I would have if the salesman and I hadn't rushed things a bit and just remembered this morning (fax awaited for this bit of the transaction..).
End Sep/early October expected. Prob silver/black. Or red/black. Or something.... Aaaaaaaagghhhh - and so it begins...
Arrived 19/04/03 - CR/CR MCS.
Next on the agenda - stereo upgrades?
Washy......how did you get on against the R5 GT??
On my test drive I panned an MG ZR (160 I think as it had a twin exhaust with a heat shield). Giving it a bit of Peter Pan on Manchester Road behind the ZR enjoying third gear. He just couldn't perform on the bends so I held back, floored it into the bend and had the advantage on the next straight coming out to pass him at about 95. Nice.
The ZR's are pretty rapid as well.
DS/Black Cooper S, Chilli pack, Full leather, Climate DSC, Clear lights and 212 ponies Hartge kit.
We came up behind him quite quickly (oh er missus). He obviously clocked what we were and pulled over to let us by. He then gave chase, we could of gone quicker but as it was a dealer demo car did not want to take to many liberties with it, he was definately having trouble keeping up with us, slowed for a speed limit and he went past but we soon caught him up again afterwards.
It was enought to convince me how good the S is, and so much fun it hurts.
