Question Part Exchange Deal, Good or Bad?

This is my first say on this very informative site, and what a great site.
Anyway, question time!
Were you offered a good part ex deal?
I was offered about £3,500 below trade on my current car Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 against my(sorry the wife's) Cooper S due 16th July. Is this because they don't need to buy your car because they have already got the sale of the Mini due to waiting lists?
Has anybody had a decent deal from BMW or said to them that they need a better price to be able to do the deal?
I may have to tell them I cannot take the new car until my car is sold or they give me a better price. Will they say tuff and sell my car to some else on the list or keep my car until I have sold?

Please HELP!!!

First off Welcome to Mini2.

Now for the problem in hand…

Unfortunately you are never going to get the best price for your car when you trade in. It does normally pay to bargain though, if you have a price in mind tell them and try and find a common medium. They will still make money from your car plus the dealer will get their commission from the sale. So it’s in their best interests to do what it takes to get you to buy the car.

I hope that’s helped.

My dealer wasn't interested in trades at all. Hw would give me wholesale price at best. Either way, the change over price won't change much. Although on the MINI you'll be lucky to get any sort of discount for nil trade anyway.

I'll either sell privately, or keep what I've got. Not sure yet.

If...

you are lucky to have a dealer who is large enough to 'umbrella' several different makes-- ie. yours

and if..

you are a repeat customer--

you may luck out as I did with a trade-in deal I could live with.

True it was a couple of thousand less than selling it privately, if I could have sold it with everything working out perfectly.

The tax savings almost made up for it.

Another dealer (BMW) offered me $4000. less which was a large enough difference to tell me he either did not know what he was talking about or was trying to 'steal' my car.

Good Luck!
