Battery Failure at 22,000 miles, 1 year 6 months

Ok,

Just wanted you to know that yesterday my battery totally failed and today I had to replace it with a new one. No complaints about Mini service, they were great and I paid nothing, but I do have to complain about:

-Mini Roadside Assistance: waiting time was 3-4 hours???? what a h...??? It sucks. I tried jumper cables and the battery was so dead that it didn't work, so I had to push the car with some help from very nice people, and then turn-it on the old fashioned way of clutch & first

-Battery failing after such a short period of use. Poor quality I guess. Bad thing they replaced it with a similar one

All batteries go bad, some sooner, some later, mostly the luck of the draw.

I also have a VW -- I seem to replace the battery every two years/20,000km. 22,000 *miles* would be great! Ottawa is a very hot / very cold climate, and I mostly make a bunch of short trips, just the conditions that Max describes as being harsh on batteries.

My MINI's battery failed at a fairly young age as well. The other day I was at the dealer's and I heard the service guy tell a customer that BMW/MINI uses a company that manufactures poor quality batteries and that they have to replace them all the time.
