Anybody declared their JCW equipment to their insurance company???

Hi

I rang my insurance company and told them i got , JCW exhaust, JCW Airfilter, JCW seats and JCW strutbrace. They were fine at first but now they want an engineers report from my BMW dealer saying that theres been no increase in power. My BMW cant come up with anything, they said that they cant find details on power increase for individual JCW parts but only for the FULL JCW Kit?????

I dont know why my insurance company is really bothered though because i asked them about 1 year ago would my premiums increase if i got the full works kit and they said no.

Has anybody else had a similar experience??

Fabio

Might be worth having a scout about, see what other policies are available?

Can understand why you're loathe to change then. Can't really see what the biggie is with the insurance company now then. Are they viewing your mods as aftermarket, or what? And surely the strut brace and seats are hardly performance enhancing?!

Don't see how you could do that - there is a rated increase for the JCW air filter (in USA at least) of about 5hp.

might just be easier to say you have a JCW MCS seeing as they said it wouldn't increase the price

My insurance company (Norwich Union Direct)

are fine for JCWorks Sports Brakes (which I have, no premium increase)
are fine for JCWorks Strut Brace (Dont have, YET , no premium increase)
are fine for JCWorks Air filter (They want an extra £80, coz its rated at 5HP increase, putting it into their Engine mod catogory).

Full JCWorks, either 200 or 210hp, They wont insure They dont do modifiactions, how this fits in with the air filter mod, I dont know )

Not sure, technically you will be insuring a car you dont have, its POSSIBLE, they could use that to get out of paying in the event of an accident.

The question you have to ask is, is it worth risking the cost of your car (and any other party involved) in the event of an accident? Personally, I wouldnt, It may be hassle to go though all the hoops, but it could be a major hassle if you dony

I got a telephone quote of no charge for adding Works Brakes, but when I asked if they ould add that to my policy and then I would get them done, they said they had to be fitted before they could be included in the policy.

When I did get them done, a few weeks after, I just phoned they up, they added it and a letter came though a few days later confirming the update to the policy, I didn't have to provide any documentation to say it was actually done though.

Ho hum

maybe they have the JCW listed as a seperate car, thats how a lot of places have it listed and when they search for it as a conversion it doesn't show so they say they can't do it?

Might be worth checking
