Black Cooper car nearly stalls when pulling away

Hi folks

I have a Mini Cooper that nearly stalls when pulling away. The problem only happens when pulling away from a cold start when the car has been sitting there for some while. When the engine sounds like its about to stall, the engine management light flickers on and off and the engine revs drop to about 500 rpm.If i drop the clutch and rev the car gently, the engine runs fine after that. The problem is random - some days its fine others it struggles. Once the engine is warm i don't have a problem.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Chris

A few weeks ago, whilst pulling out onto a busy roundabout the engine did as descibed above ... very scary as a large lorry was bearing down on me at the time! The engine was warmed up though.

Probably..DEFINATELY! Happened to me whilst crossing lanes, almost broad-sided On the same short journey, the DSC saved my life when a lorry shed it's load of bricks as I was approaching it at 60mph! I think 'Betty' was making up for it's previous bad behaviour!!

Swiper does that in first occasionally, think its just a thing they do. Since I remembered to keep the revs up a little in first (just a touch) it doesnt happen any more.

I'd get it into a dealer & hooked up. You may have either dirt in the fuel filter or a programming fault? I'm no mechanic though, so nobody grill me!

mine stumbles when its cold...in the first few seconds it can die or nealy die...its not traction control, its just not right fuel/air combo.
I'll get it looked at when it's serviced, but i've seen a few others complaining.
What I have tried is waiting for 10 secs after turning the key before starting...

i posted about traction control in relation to GNDmini's post.
