Hello from another Aussie :)

Hi Guys,

Well it seems another Audi driver (some ex TT and A4 owners here I've already seen!) is swapping their car (I have an A3) for a Cooper S!

I ordered one on Monday, and am expecting November delivery. EB, White roof, Lapis blue leather, basically every option except heated seats and Nav. Still deciding about DSC and 17" rims, but I have three weeks to lock that in apparently. Dealing with BMW Parramatta - they've been great so far!

The dealer also mentioned a factory Audio Upgrade for about AUD$1000, he thinks it's by Harman Kardon, but he didn't know any more than that. Does anyone here know any more about this or how good it is? I spent a few hours in an S on Monday and thought the sound system was OK for an OE system, but my A3 has a full aftermarket setup so I'm used to a lot better (unfortunately for my wallet!).

I would be stoked if I could get a decent factory fitted sound system - it would save me time, and pulling apart my brand new mini! Mind you, as a $1000 option, I can't see it being fantastic...?

Anyway, looks like I'll be 'moving in' here over the next few months, there is a wealth of info here already! It's great!

Cheers guys,

Tim

Welcome aboard Tim,

November deliver is great - I should be getting mine about Oct/Nov, and I have had my deposit with BMW since Aug 01. I've decided to wait on the Black.

Andy

Welcome Tim. Well, another Audi driver. Good to see. Coming from a TT (I still have an A4) I can tell you that the Cooper S is more entertaining and more rewarding to drive. TT may be faster ultimately on a straight line (it is 165kw after all!!!) and definitely in the wet (thanks to Quattro), but on the right roads the Cooper S will give it a serious canning. I am sure you will love the S.

One thing though, if you want an Electric Blue Cooper S, Doncaster Mini here in Melbourne have one available in August. They pre-ordered the car without having sold it to anybody. They also had a DS/Black car coming in Sept not that long ago. So if you are keen for a car sooner, you can ring them up to check.

Hi Tim

Welcome!

Regarding the H/K audio, have a look in the forum on Interior & ICE. Try out the site's 'search' function... There are quite a few threads on this topic

Cheers

Welcome Tim - yet another Audi driver - S3... but i'm greedy so am keeping the S3 and adding the MCS. All I need now is a G-tech and a sympathetic mate!!

Anyway - good to see loads of Aussies on the forum sure to catch you all round discussing the merits of Xenon's/Runflats/Tyre choice/Roof Colour/Handling in the near future

Are you bringing your S3 and Mini back (if you do come back)? I assume you are a banker (or analyst) or IT type who have gone over there to make a few bucks but will come back.

Hello and welcome to the mad house (as we are mad about ours MINI in here)

As for the Harman Kardon stereo upgrade, rich is right there is a lot of words around here on the system.

But not much action from BMW on it. Let's see it was first due March 2002 then that was June 2002 then it was Sept 2002 now it's Dec 2002. Now these are all factory build dates so you can add on about 2.5 more months. So maybe Feb or Mar 2003 we might hear our first H/K system.

Ahh the Aussie flag waves proudly across the Mini2 web site.

I was wondering if we should have our own performance house like John cooper works?

maybe,
"Dazzas s**thot you beaut beat the pants of a lumbering V8 chop shop and fuzzy dice emporium."

Good to see another Aussie here. When Steve and I finally get our cars and drive them down to melbourne we will have to look you all up.

Yes, welcome aboard Tim.

Spazz and I are only 24 sleeps (not counting afternoon naps) away from our little babies landing at Melbourne Port.

Depending on customs and dealer prep we should get them by the weekend of 17th August. A quick run-in over the next week and then we'll be 'rollin down the highway' (according to the Doobie Brothers).

Anyone who visits Melbourne/Victoria should let us know so that we can escort you through some great countryside, any season. There are lots of great runs within an hour or so of Melbourne to wineries, fern valleys, extinct volcanoes, beaches, whales, dolphins. You name it, we've got it. And the roads to match.

On another note, those fantastic photos from the BMW site showed the MINI Sound Module, which is another sound system option, is it not? for those who want something better than the standard head unit and speakers. Can someone tell me where it fits into the sound system range? This may be what that dealer was talking about - the $1000 system.

Regards, Eltel

Yeah, count me in as another Melbournian welcome party!!! I think we have more Melbournians here (Geelong included) than any other Aussie city. BTW ElTel, where the heck is the extinct volcano you were talking about???
