Options on the dash(board) color for 2003 S's.

I how have to decide what dash I would like in my S. Is the fake aluminum real enough or should I go for a Cooper dash or the new painted one?

The fake aluminium looks nothink like real aluminium. But it looks OK to me.

The silver, I don't like.

The new dashboard colour, I suspect I'll hate.

None of the options are wonderful. Pity, really.

Ordered my "S" August '01. Arrived July '02. EB with white roof, wheels and stripes, Chili pack, DSC and climate control. Hate those 17" runflats though.

Can now be seen all over the West Midlands, as a blue blur passing everything at speed

There really isn't any new dash. All that's happening is that for 2003 the Cooper S can be had with the "Cooper" dash (light silver) or the "One" dash (anthracite).

So, it you want your Cooper S to look like a downmarket model go for one of the new choices.

+ 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather
+ 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed

Cool I LIKE the "downgraded" dashes!

Wow! I'm so happy! I actually LIKE the dash on the One and Cooper, more so than the really, really fake looking thing in the S. Yeah, they're all soooo plastic... kinda wish they had a really high quality feel, like a new VW GTI or the Audi TT, but I also like the sort of playful character of the Cooper and ONE dash. If the S dash were ACTUALLY brushed metal, that would ROCK. But instead, it's clearly plastic like the others, and plastic is fine with me... unless it looks like it's trying to be something it's not. I kinda hate the feeling of seeing the S dash through the window and drooling over the brushed metal, only to sit in front of it and go, "Oh."

So, I'm totally delighted to get to order one of the others as an option, and will probably do that. I hope the tartan red option (or rumored red/black leather!) becomes available for the S; that would totally make my day. I prefer just about all the design options for the Cooper over those for the S, actually, so the dash options are really welcome.

Heck, more options are always welcome. That just helps to make each of our cars that much more unique.

Happily,

The anthracite is not actually just the 'One' dash. In the UK, this dash is standard on the One and the Cooper.

I like it, but if you have a rev counter, that will still be brilliant silver, in the same way that if you order the alloy look most of the dials etc are brilliant silver.

Somewhere on the 'net I saw a picture of a Mini with a woodgrained dash. That looked truely awesome. I would have thought they would have made it an option as it really fits in with the retro theme.

I think this dash color thing is also great news.

I am on the list for an S which will be a 2003 model so I will be sure to specify my dash. I'm going for the gloss silver dash as in the Cooper, as I think it looks best with the interior trim and the gauges.

My biggest gripe about the S interior was that alloy patina dash. I would have put up with it (obviously, since I signed up before I knew about the new dash options) but now that I don't have to, I won't

Many people in this forum is not too crazy about the alloy patina color, including me.
But does anyone thinking about painting the dash to match their car color. I ordered a red MCS, thinking about painting all the alloy patina panels the same red paint. I think it should look good. I will look like the BMW Z8 or the PT Cruiser. Any opinion?

I think the alloy patina looks awesome

The fake wood dash will also be available on 2003 models. Not my cup of tea though...
