Replacing the original/factory oil

I was told that I should change out/replace the oil in my MINI (or any car rather) soon after driving it around because of the fact that metal shavings still residing on engine components gather in the oil after moving around the engine for a bit. I was told it is to help reduce problems with these metal bits getting stuck places and causing problems.

Is this a valid point? Should I replace the oil and if so, how soon (miles)?

well with bmw and many other makers using synthetic you'll notice they no longer need you to come in to have your break in oil changed. i don't think they would intentionally set themselves up for all kinds of engine failures do you? seemed very odd to me too but you can't beat the logic of the financial risk they're obviously not taking.

I doubt they would do something to risk engine failure. I meant it more as just another precaution to properly or maybe even thoroughly protecting the longevity of my MINI. You are suggested not to exceed certain speeds and RPMs during the break in period so that the engine is broken in correctly. It was more asked as a question of something that can be done to only prolong the life and vitality of the car.
