Early MCS's are there many on here (2002 models)

I bought my 02 plate MCS 3 months ago.

Had a couple of common mini problems, but still happy as i love the car.

Just wondering are there many 2002 owners, as i see a lot of posts steering people awa from these cars. So are they as bad as some make out, I mean for 9-10k what do people expect.

I wouldn't steer you away from a 2002 MINI. Especially if all the problems have been sorted out by the original owner already. There were a few teething problems with the first year MINIs. If you are seriously looking a purchasing a 2002 model, make sure it has the ECM program upgrades done and any other mechanical issues resolved. Check for any service bulletins and make sure they have been exedited.

Otherwise, you should have just as much fun driving an 02 MINI as you would any other MINI.

Cheers!

i bought my 02 reg cooper s about 6 months ago with 45,000 miles on the clock. I'm now showing 54,000 miles and still loving every minute of it.

I just had a new clutch replaced at Castle BMW to the tune of c£800 but apart from that no major problems just squeaky seats and rattles which you would expect i suppose. Oh and my drivers side door wont unlock with the key (this started yesterday ).

Dont be put off. i paid £9,500 in the summer and im pretty confident i wont lose too much on depreciation if i sold tomorrow.

I might be getting the JCW soundkit in the new year, or maybe aero side skirts. I normally only own cars for a year or so before i change but i might actually keep this one after Summer 2007 because i dont see the point in changing it. I love it!!!!

Hi this may be tempting fate but touching wwood my Dec 02 built S has given very little trouble. Have replaced the exhaust with a front lohen including high flow cat and the back with an unused part off ebay for £21.
Still love driving the car after 48k miles

Actually chasing up its history, as it appears to be one of the first MCS in Australia.

So far so good with regards mechanicals. Some interior rattles (mainly door trim) when driving on rough bitumen.

It's also got the "cold start" problem, but I can live with that. May get a MTH remap at some stage.

Great car....closest thing I've drive to a well sorted Classic Mini (which I still have).

Cheers,

Dave
