Cooper S is here

Ok I know I have to get some pics posted but in the meantime I just wanted to tell you all that my mini from Crevier in Santa Ana finally arrived at my house in Florida at 4am monday morning. I put it in the garage and went to bed only to get up later and be busy all day long. It had 9 miles and now its got 10 coz I drove it around the block. I need to get my tag switched over from my wrx.
Anyways my first complaint. It rains real bed in Florida and we had this mini afternoon Monsoon come through, well after it stops raining I go out to drool and I notice that the rear passenger tail light lens was all misted up. On further inspection I noticed it was full of water A friend was over and we took it off and with a little help from the mrs' hairdryer and some silicone, we fixed it up and put it back on. I hope it dont happen again. Like I said, pics will come later and hopefully I will have driven it some more. Cheers Limey.
Oh ok to EDIT my post B4 I do post, I know I said I put it in the garage, well I took it out coz I am painting my house and didnt want to risk any overspray. Sadley it rained and didnt help my paint

Quite a few people have had the steamy/wet light effect, and as far as I know, all had it replaced by their dealer.

Enjoy your new toy!

Just to update you all on my leaky tail light. The silicone seems to have done the trick. Since fixing Ive washed her quite a few times and also been in some downpours and had no problems

No Crevier are charging $2000 over MSRP like most other dealers. They give you LoJack and Paint protection for that little mark up I was on the list at the local mini dealer here in Tampa bay (Ferman, Palm Harbor) but I was working at Reeves Import Motorcars who are Fermans BMW competition. I thought nothing of it until the BMW manager got fired and went to work for Ferman. After that we were doing NO business them, as in dealer trades and stuff. All petty BS if you ask me but anyways it was enough for me to go and ask my boss if she knew of another mini dealer where I could order. I guess she appreciated that and said she would see what she could do. Well after a few weeks I was told I had an order confirmed, then after two months I was given a production number and could track my mini online That was the first time that I knew it was ordered from Crevier. Mrs Reeves & Bob Crevier are friends. Anyways I figured that my mini would be delivered to Brunswick but it was not to be. I just recently got laid off from Reeves, just as my mini was arriving at the dealership and so I had a tough decision to make, to buy a car with no job while currently paying on a 2002 WRX. Well as you can see I bought my mini They did try and stiff me for 2 grand over but I refused, then I had the problem of getting the car here. I ended up paying $850 for delivery to my house in an enclosed two car trailer. That was a great deal getting shipping at their cost, otherwise it was going to cost me $1400.
So I cant recommend Crevier. I certainly dont recommend reeves and I dont really have any experience yet with Ferman.
As to ripping up any corners. I have only done just over 400 miles, so not yet. Patience is a virtue and I will get there eventually.
Cheers Limey.

Is the yellow car in the background your WRX? My boyfriend has a Blue WRX. He's done a lot of mods to it. I really like that car. So are you getting rid of the WRX? Does your wife drive that big truck?

Yep thats the scooby in the background. They only made 400 yellow ones so I should have no problems selling it. Its a great car and easy to mod, mine is pushing well over 280hp.

Haha! no that truck belongs to a friend, my wife drives a 2002 VW GLX Beetle turbo
OH NO Did you say Boyfriend? Now thats gonna upset a few over in the Off Topic thread

WRX vs MINi S?

I have a Cooper S on order. I rented an MCS for a day just to see the comparison. I wrote a big comparo and posted to R0adflew & I-club.com(WRX site).

I wonder if you could tell me how you feel about the change from WRX to MCS?

The things I liked about the WRX:
1. Good, comfy, quiet highway cruising.
2. at 90MPH engine not revving so high(like MINI)
3. Fit and finish seem better. The plastic feels cheaper but everything is solid and would seem to last 75K miles.
4. Power after 3500 RPM is great!
5. in dash 6 disk CD for no extra $!!
6. Good chance it will be reliable car.
7. after 12,000 miles with off road use not 1 rattle!

Dont like about WRX:
1. the look!
2. the look!
3. Turbo lag
4. boring interior

Liked about Mini Cooper S:
1. The look
2. Handling
3. View of interior from drivers seat is awsome! (WRX is opposite)
4. Good low end pull.
5. option of sunroof
6. good stock stereo

Did NOT like about Mini Cooper S
1. Feeling that things not put together very well. In my rental with 7,000 miles ashtray cover fell off, bezel around handbrake kept coming off, etc.
2. Noisy when cruising.(may be due to quiet level of WRX on highway.
3. Revs high on the highway. Had Miata did the same & can annoy after a while.
4. On freeways in LA cars sort of wobble at high speed over certain highways. With the Mini it was almost nauseating(sp?)
5. Relaibility is very questionable.
6. Seat controls are seriously strange and even after all day using car still had to decipher the pictogram on the seat controls.
7. (just remembered) The annoying rattle of the hatch!!! I rather not have to use duct tape to fix a brand new car. I want it to be quiet from the start and to stay rattle free for a long time...Hope no other rattles come about!

So Limey any other insight? I almost have my WRX sold...Not as easy to sell this car as it may seem! But want to make sure it''s worth losing the money I am and hope insurance on MINI will be a bit cheaper.

Hey man, I dont really know what to tell you, its all a personal decision. I am loving my MCS but I only have 900 miles so far. It WILL get better after the break-in coz I can redline it and use it to its full potential. BUT I took out the WRX yesterday and it was like WOW, its bloody fast and the MCS will never compare, even if it was 200hp. Zooming fast is not my priority anymore though!! I auto crossed the WRX and it was a great handling car. Yes, the stock stereo was excellant but that was the only part of the interior that I liked, it is cheap looking. Yes it is going to last as it is tough and Subaru cars are excellant for reliabilty.
I learnt to drive in a origional mini and past my test (1st time) in England driving one. Thats one of the reasons why I want a mini, I think they look cool and so do other people. The WRX is kinda plain and dosnt stand out like the mini. I got the yellow WRX and so Ive had a few 'nice car' comments and I got it when they first came out BUT I have had more with my mini already!!
If you like street races then keep your WRX as with the AWD and potential for 300+hp then you cant beat it. But if you want to stand out from the crowd, have a practical hatchback car that looks cool and is fairly quick then get a MCS. The AC sucks in the WRX but i raced around in it most of the time so I didnt really use it.
I do miss the fact that the WRX's lights turned off with the key as I have left my mini lights on a few times now. I miss the acceleration and the 6 disc CD.
To rectify this I am getting a cd changer for the trunk. I look forward to 200 hp from pulleys and chip & an exhaust to make it sound meaner!
The mini is basically a BMW so its fit and finish should last ok. It should be reliable and maintenance is included. What more do you want
I have not had the mini long enough to have any annoying squeaks or noises yet. There's more tyre noise with them runflats but its not too bad. Also when ya stick it in 6th gear on the motorway, I dont think it revs any higher than me scooby does. I also noticed that it can track on the road, the scoob never did that probably coz of the AWD.
Man I wish I could afford to keep the scoob now ya got me thinking about it but oh well I will forget about it soon enough! Lets Motor.
Err..probably I'm not much help then huh?

Thanks!

I still have to actually sell the WRX before taking delivery of my MCS. It's sitting at the dealer waiting for me...what a drag!

I have had it up for sale for almost a month and still nothing but flakey people who keep telling me they want it!

Thanks for the nice post though!
