Don't turn that screw, it could break.

Just abrase the screw end until the valve is closing so it leaves the smallest gap possible. Don't abrase too much of, you can't put it on again

In case you ever wonder where your power has gone when that happens, 50% chance this bypass valve is broken. I had to fit a new one because the spring that helps closing the valve was broken.

It may give you a little bit more pressure if your valve was badly adjusted in the plant.

Is it known whether or not this is any less common with the 2005+ bypass valves?
Has anyone had their 2005+ bypass valve optimized?

What does the bypass valve do?

It saves you lots of fuel

It gives less pressure when you don't push the gaspedal so you don't drive around with full kompressor pressure all the time (and thus saves fuel). Opening the throtlle body closes the kompressor bypass valve giving you the full benefit of the kompressor.

Could a wrongly adjusted bypass valve be the cause of the relatively bad fuel economy of some MCSs?

If I drive like a granny, I would expect reasonable fuel economy, but this is not happening. It doesn't seem to matter how gentle I am with the accelerator, my MCS drinks fuel (over 10L/100).

I'm not expecting "Japanese small car economy" with the MCS especially when I put the boot in, but being a relatively light car, sensible driving should do better than 10L/100.

Perhaps the bypass valve is to blame?

Cheers,

Dave

The valve constantly allows some pressure to excape when the charger is spinning. Closing the valve down "optimising it" increases the boost pressure causing increased fuel use..but most importantly increased boost and therefore ....power
