MPG in the Cooper S

Hi I have a Cooper S Convertible and the only mechanical addition is a quiksilver oval central exaust. But my fuel consumption seems to be verging on the ridiculous. Sometime if I push the car hard I can see the fuel guage dropping. I would say if I have a normal town run in the car (so no motorways or dual carriage ways) I get a maximum of 20 mpg . Is this normal ?

Town driving seems to average low to mid 20s. Ours tends to average out at about 28 MPG over a longer period of time (so mixed country, town and fast driving).

Sounds a bit low, should be around at least 28 mpg even with a exhaust.

roughly how much do you guys spend a month on petrol if you have to fill up once a week?

Will the MCS do 300miles around town on a tank of petrol?

Also do MCS only run well on high octane fuel...or is the cheaper stuff ok aswell?

Sorry for the questions!

I certainly got a fright with regards fuel economy after changing my daily drive from a classic Mini to a 02 MCS.

My fuel consumption has doubled. And I wouldn't say that the MCS is twice as fun or that much faster (especially round town).

The strange thing is, you can't seem to get good fuel consumption around town in the MCS, no matter how you drive.

Don't get me wrong, I love the MCS but I would have expected it to be a bit more economical considering it's a modern car.

I have been told that the MTH Tuner remap improves economy which sort of implies that the factory map may be the culprit.

Cheers,

Dave

I get better mileage out of my S running it on Shell V-Power. On average 29 mpg - over all sorts of different roads. If I change to Tesco 99 that figure goes down to about 27.5 mpg.

I have noticed in highway driving, at least, that having the top down seems to cost 3-4 mpg.

I have noticed fitting an adult friesian cow to the front of my car causes the MPG to drop to about 3 or 4.

Cheers,
K.

on average i get 250 miles to a tank,

This morning i drove from Kent to Farnborough and got 41mpg average fro the journey,

However,

on the way back the weather was nice, sunny, 15c ( for winter thats good in UK) so i took the back roads from Sevenoaks to Maidstone, i managed to get that fuel economy back down to a more enviromentaly unfriendly 23mpg, Very Nice, it was worth evry penny playing cat and mouse with a Golf GTi,

How do you work out your mpg from a journey?
