Sweden New to the forum, one question?

Hello everyone,
Just picked up my 02 cooper S about two weeks ago and absolutly love it. It is such a great car with great build quality and awesome fun factor. I am so happy with the purchase. There is only one gripe and i was wondering if there is something i can do about it. I am 6'6" tall and yes i did buy this car for an everyday car. The only issue i really have is the steering wheel does not telescope. This being the case, since my seat is all the way back, my arms are completly straight and for those of you who have taken autocross classes or raced before, you will know this is not the most optimum position for reactive driving. Anyway, is there a way to extend the wheel out about an inch or so to gain that distance i need. By putting an insert or something of that nature. If anyone can help this would be great. Thanks alot in advance!

The simple solution, trade it in for a new second generation MINI where this feature is available

November 2006 was the European launch, you guys have had it since the weekend, I believe?

Rakey is obviously in a funny mood today, as it is very unlike him to post an answer like that.

Unfortunately, there is no official way of adjusting the steering column on your car. Sorry.

I'm not talking about official. I am talking about, if anyone has heard or done anything like this? How far has someone got to dissassembling the wheel to figure out if it CAN be done?

If you get the wheel pushed back an inch - doesn't the shifter need to come back as well? I find my seat position dictated more by my arm length and fifth gear than anything else...

I'm 6'2" and also sit with the seat slightly forward in position. Another trick to get you closer to the wheel is to tilt the seat forward more. This is what I did and found a nice comfey postion.

Well since i am about 2 to 4 inches taller than you both, than that inch or so of extension that i am talking about on the steering column should be perfect, since your driving position is perfect. correct?
Has anyone, ever put an aftermarket steering wheel on before?

I do wish that it had a telescoping steering wheel myself. It would make getting comfortable easier. I have not heard of anyone doing a mod like this.
