My 03 R53 does it. I was also a little worried when I first saw it smoking but then I realised what it was!

My 04 R53 also does it, Again Worried me when it first happened, But it is water dripping or being blown onto the Supersharger. Scary when it first happens though.

Because the R56 is a turbo, the hood scoop is fake. It's blocked off by a piece of black plastic grille.

My Feb 04 Cooper S always steams through the bonnet intake after I've washed it.

The first time I saw the steam I was worried too, but now I think its cool. Sort of a fun fault. And I love the term "dragon's breath."

Mine is a 2005 MCS/JCW 210, and it also happens too, not so much noticeable when raining, but if I ever take it to a hand wash place (If short of time) it steams a lot when they put the water on the car, 'dragons breath' escapes from the scoop! very cool!
