Tow Bar - Is It Possible?

Is it actually possible to fit a detachable tow bar to the MCS at all?

I thought not, because of central exhaust. But apparently there is one available!

Has anybody heard of this, or know where I could enquire?

Ta.

I have the same question. MINI Specs say no for the MCS (for the reason you mentioned) and the same said my dealer as well. But I would be interested if one could be fitted....but where and how???

According to Witter, the Cooper S is not homologated for towing, as shown here on their website (use the drop-down manufacturer box to select MINI).

These guys are the biggest supplier of aftermarket towbars in the UK, so chances are if they can't do one, nobody will!

i can`t see if you fit after-market twin exhaust it being a problem, i think play mini , alta and several others do a wide twin end pipes design freeing up middle for tow bar,
the after market tow guys wont design a product for a non-standard vehicle as the market would not be big enough, but if there is a mini fit available, i would be amazed it could not be be adapted to suit an s, with an wide exit
don`t give up.....
your dealer will also tell you that a mini wont pull 250+ bhp we all know thats rubbish
good luck

Was this what you were thinking of?

You'd need the combination of the "Sport-Link" and appropriate "Tow-Link" .......... not cheap though.

You're not wrong!

£275.00 plus Shipping to the UK plus finding someone to fit it (MINI dealers won't as it's not a recognised accessory) will soon add up.

Is there nothing similar available from UK suppliers?

Ah maybe that's what was seen before then. Pretty pricey...

Just need to find a UK supplier

Are you sure the dealer won't do it, Scrogg? When MINIFINI was under the previous ownership, this setup used to be endorsed by MINI, and was in the accessories catalogue up to '06.

In the UK accessory catalogue? I'd never even heard of it until today?

Generally speaking, dealers won't fit anything not supplied directly by the manufacturer.

Actually, it is still showing on the Canadian site - MINI.ca Click on accessories and then 'transportation'.
But I take it that it was never sold through the dealer in the UK?

No, it's never been a MINI UK accessory. MINI USA and MINI CA are separate companies, so will do different things to MINI UK and obviously have a deal going with MINI-FINI as it is a US company.

Motoringfile has the installation pdf for the sport-link. Seems to mention some hidden pre-existing mounting holes in the body structure. Wonder if they exist in non-US builds?

There is a thread on the MINI2 Australian section and this link is mentioned:

MINI Cooper Trailer Hitch and Trailer

Looks very American to me and not sure of its legality elsewhere in the world. Looks good though.
