Hi Everyone! Advice needed please... Hi, This is my first post on this excellent site after lurking in the background for quite a while. I've used this site for over 2 years now, from help choosing my spec, identifying faults and generally all things Mini – a very useful resource. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the following; I took my MCS into the dealership this morning after getting a strange noise when braking. I went out with a technician and he identified the problem as a fault with the disk on the offside rear wheel. He showed me what appeared to be some kind of rust mark on the disk and how it was rubbing on the brake calliper. To remedy this they will have to replace the disk. So, they have to replace both rear disks as they are generally fitted in pairs and also the pads. (Approx £230) I have been told that I will have to pay for this as it’s not covered under warranty. I appreciate that brakes are a wear & tear item, but with a mileage reading of less than 12k, is this something I should be paying for? |

| If it's only one disc then I'd push them for a warranty repair as there's obviously a problem with it. It certainly should never rub on a caliper no matter how worn it gets. I would also be asking what damage it has caused to the caliper by rubbing. I think a new one should be fitted if it has caused any wear. Again this should be covered under you warranty as a manufacturing defect and not a wear and tear item. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| Thanks for your replies guys. I've got my car back now. While it was in for the rear brakes replacing they noticed damage to one of the front discs. What i failed to mention in my original post is that just before Christmas i had a crash. I didn't think it was related to this but it appears that it could be. Firstly, the damage to the front disk is on the passenger side, the side that hit a kerb edge. Hard enough that they had to replace the wheel, so the damage to the disk could've easily been caused by this impact. As for the corrosion type mark on the rear disk. The 'garage' that had my car after the crash had it for around 3 months. Wish that had been the only problem i had with them. Anyway, i thought that if the car has been sat for that amount of time, could this have been caused by the handbrake been applied? Sounds like another letter to the insurance. Not sure about my chances for the rear disk but the damage to the front can't be anything else IMO. |
