Question Zizzzing Noise !?!?

I just bought my 2002 Cooper s JCW and it seems like trouble is already looming: a zizzzing noise has appeared, this sounds like exhaust gas leaking from the manifold, but I’m not too sure. Is this a common problem or is the noise something totally different? It increases in frequency with engine revs/ strain and is quite loud. I’ve only had the car for 3 days so I’m not totally sure what should sound like.

please give me some feedback and don't tell me it's the supercharger!

At first it I thought it may be the power steering motor when I read the title, but I'm not sure after reading your post.

Could be your mistaking intake or charger noise for a problem. On the JCW at higher revs its reasonably raucous as the flap on the airbox opens

other thing is maybe the heat shielding on the exhaust is touching on the rear or the front near the cat? Possibly the internals of the cat have broken loose...I had this on my classics. Also possibly the back box internals rattling around a bit? Get somone to do it when your outside the car at a standstill and try different locations around it to see if you can try to pinpoint area the noise comes from.

With my CAI, I can hear it sucking in air now. Kind of a really cool sound.

was it from dealer, if so go back, as soon as you can.
if it from private sale, then book it into main dealer for full diagnostic , will cost but , if anything serious at least you will be on top of the problem.
