Angry Someone hit my car!!!

I can't believe it. I came back from dinner and someone had left a note on my windscreen telling me that he is sorry he hit my car. I looked around the car and realise that he had hit the bottom rear right side. The thing is, he had hit the right muffler, and it had dented and possibly even has a hole on it. The black plastic panel has also come off the body. The centre exhaust pipes are no longer pointing straight back, but to the right instead. I hope he did not damage my chassis at all. I can't tell. The car sounds awful and I have lost power. I am wondering what it is that he was driving that could have hit so low down, below my bodywork. Does anyone in Australia know if BMW already stock the exhaust? I do not want them to have to take 2 weeks to order it from UK.

The bright side is the guy left details (or did he just leave a sorr note, and no details?).

It would have been far worse to suffer a hit and run.

How awful. But I agree with Paul, at least this is someone who left a note (and hopefully their name and contact information). Better that than some coward who slinks away without taking responsibility. I hope it works out for you.

Picked up 12 July 2002. 69,000 rev happy miles Autocrossing in G Stock this year!!!

Sorry to hear it, hope the guy left details as well as an apology!

I'd expect that your local tyre/exhaust place would be able to temporarily fix it until BMW get the parts in (if they don't already)

Update

The guy did leave a note with his first name and a phone number. I have been calling that number all night and there has been no answer (it is now 1.10am).

I brought my car to Bib Stillwell BMW service at 11.15pm (yes, they are open till midnight, even on a Friday night!), the service manager there was really great. He looked at it and told me that nothing else could have done this except for a bike. He thinks the person must have fallen the the bike slid under the car. The right muffler has a big cut on it, which is probably the reason why I have lost power and the fuel consumption is higher than normal. He looked up in his computer and we discovered that the right muffler part comes with the pipe all the way to the extractor. Left muffler is a different part altogether. Unfortunately he couldn't tell from his system tonight if the part is available in Australia now. I will just have to wait till tomorrow. I still can't believe my bad luck.

Sorry to hear that. That happened to me in a car a few weeks ago. They left a note that said, "Because you had not pulled your car all the way in, I hit it in the parking lot".

They left a note...so that "IS" a very GREAT thing. I'm doubt you don't have any frame damage from a parking lot backup accident. And, you loss of power is probably because the efficiency of your exhaust system has been cut in half.

Just remember how much worse you would feel if they didn't even leave a note...

Ok, I've decided:
My Car Aimee: Mini "S", Pure Silver/B, Premium (A/C and sun roof), DSC, Fog, and Heated seats. (Why? 'cause I can't wait a year)

WAY,

I know you probably won't want to hear this - but the greatest thing about cars is they can always be fixed or replaced... people can't. I would instead be saying that i'm glad the guy who slid into your car (with a bike!) is OK (or at least OK to write you a note - he might be down at the hospital getting himself fixed up now and that is why no answer). Small comfort I know when something is damaged, but I think it's the way we should think about each other.

She is here and absobloodylutelyfantastic!!

So true, when I picked up my car from the bumper damage there was a white SUV in the parking lot that had "rolled over" and the top of the SUV was completely crushed into the cabin of the car......

If it makes you feel any better my Cooper too got hit whilst parked but the person wasn;t nice enought to leave a note... Ah ha, there was one good samaritan who did leave the details of the offending vehicle and his name and address as a whitness..

The good old metropolitan police however seem not to really give a flying woo hoo that this driver is rolling about with no tax or insurance and have almost let him get away with it!!! Thank You officer!!!!

Great but it cost me a fortune to have it repaired!!!

This car is going to lose me my license one day. I LOVE IT!!!

Not good to hear Way. Hope everything works out ok. I have been told that BMW/au stocked enough parts to build 6 complete cars before they went on sale. I hope this is right so you can get back to enjoying your cooper S.

Always seem's to be the way (pardon the pun) with new cars doesn't it. I'm sure you'l be able to get onto him if he went to the trouble of leaving you a note. Maybe this is a good time to upgrade to a HAMANN exhaust.......
