HID foglights, anyone?

I have HID foglights on my Land Rover, and was wondering if anyone has tried to put them on their MINI? Hella makes a size similar to the factory fogs, but I am not sure about space to mount the hardware.
I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this before I do.

Thanks
-Rob

stationwagon278,

You have HID fogs on a LR?? Which one?? I've got a `01 Disco with all regular lights. I wished they offered HIDs.

Do you know if upgrades exist??

Thanks,
Boris

OKKKKKKKKKKK

Ok i checked out the web page. I heard that only BOSCH or Phillips make good HID/Xenons. Umm, btw does anyone know the size of the fogs?

Is there sufficient room for the HID Kit? If you dont know what i mean look at your lights. IF they are xenon they will have a huge black box that is immediately behind the light. When the bonnet is raised the box should be visible up there behind the headlights.

U will also notice that there is room for the boxes if you look down to where the lights would be if the bonnet was closed.

Refer to Genxslkr's ABSOLUTELY Flaming HOT! bay and see what i mean. the boxes are visible at the corners of the raised bonnet.

Im out..

Having the fogs too bright becomes self defeating. They're there to illuminate the road immediately in front of the car, not the fog. If you increase the output to try to see further down the road, you end up making the fog in front of the car brighter, which causes your pupils to constrict reducing your distance vision.

A filtered spectrum and proper alignment (a sharp cutoff really helps) are more critical then brightness when it comes to seeing further down the road in fog.

Here, here, someone who understands! Thank you, BrantV.

Does it appear to anyone else the the factory holes in the plastic bumper are a bit small for the factory fog lights? I was wondering about widening the openings. No point in wasting that beautiful halogen light on the backside of the bumper.

From the photo's I've seen, it appears that the lamp is about the same size, but possibly positioned too far back. How are they affixed? Could a spacer be build to extend them forwards? Might look better.

Cheers,
Brant

Respect BrantV,

I appreciate your reply. You've got me thinking now. Do i really need xenon fogs. Regarding the pupillary constriction that would happen even with normal transillumination of fog with stock fog lamps.

Guys does anyone have the sizes for the fogs?

Fill us in.

actually, i meant driving lights. like the 2 rally lights offered by MINI. my problem is where to mount the black transistor box. (as far as the questions earlier about on a Land Rover, i have them aux. mounted on a brush bar)

Hella makes the best aux. driving lights.

these are the ones i am interested in.

Lightbulb

ED, i think the H1s should fit or does the mini have H7's? im not so sure. Ive visited this website. Some of my mates tell me their kits are ok but the color of the light when seen will be purple... now this sucks coz it means that when the fogs are on (in purple) they will be in contrast to the normal low beam xenon headlights on the car.

You dig?

Oh and Ed, do you know if there is enough room for the trasnsistor and everything if i had the fogs replaced.

Fanx,
