strange strange noise whilst turning...

hello guys!!!

newbie here! I've just bought myself a cooper s works 55 plate with 6k on the clock, what a car! I had a GTI MK5 before and that was a great car but had all sorts of niggles...

but I seem to be getting this quite loud and weird noise which sounds like rubbing or something whist turning a tight corner!? I even heard it whilst test driving but the sales man said this is totally normal and they get loads of people coming in saying this and they just sit them in a brand new coopers s and they all do it! is this absolute bull or what!?

It does have 18'' rims on it could this be something to do with it......

It sounds like it could be the LSD noise? Does your MINI have LSD on it? if so there are a few threads on here about it if you do a quick search!

yeah it does have lsd, does this cause a strange noise whilst turning?

does it only do it on full lock? I so, it's just the normal noise of a power steering pump on full lock. Sounds like a whirring or whining if it's that.. louder than the normal mini power steering whine.

Some cars do it, some don't.. My Z3 does it on full lock or almost full lock

no I've just been to the bmw garage and it turns out there is an issue with the LSD gear box oil.. something about the right verosity so i have booked it in and they will change it to the right stuff... fingers crossed it will sort it!

Good to hear all sorted. The oil was started to be replaced from 2006ish onwards after the noise you mentioned was complained about enough. Guess the previous owners didnt mind too much....

Join the club also got 55 plate Cooper S taken the car back to Mini Cherished today to Cardiff Sytner group. They did a diagnostic said it was louder than normal but they are prepared to change gearbox a week on Monday. Hope you get yours sorted.
