| Feeling the pinch? Hi guys, Just wondering with the petrol prices only going north and the tax going silly too, has anybody questioned how much they are paying out per month? Its now around £200 a month on fuel now for me, double money! I am getting around 27 mpg, and £500 a month altogether on my car to go to work and back is starting to get to me ![]() Has any one here driven/considered a quick diesel? I know AntFr used to have a VAG diesel, i was looking casualy at golf 140/170 tdi's? Or a bmw 120d? Its not a mini i know and will be certainly more dull but will they feel slow after my (standard) s? Thoughts and comments appreciated |

| The Government is greenwashing people, and unfortunately people are going to feel the pinch in the middle. Personally, I don't have kids, or a mortgage, and I am able to afford the MCS - it's a premium, luxury car, and we have to foot the bill. Yes, it's more expensive, but for me it's worth it. I can only imagine how tax/fuel rises can affect people, coupled with rising council tax, energy and food bills. If people are in those financial situations, then they need to prioritise things, IE - food, bills, clothes... car. On the same token that the finest restaurants have the finest prices, you get what you pay for. Jay |

| I can assure you a clubman D or a dooper are not quick by your standards, BUT..... For me and my clubman D (about 30,000 + business miles PA) I am getting 64mpg measured over the last 2000 miles (I've only had the car a short while). I use it for work and fun - and it is a mini, that alone is worth a lot. It's no "S" but it handles much better than most vehicles out there, unless you want to spend stupid money. It has shed loads of torque, you could always chip it, fit some GTT gear and still come home with a smile on your face and cash in your wallet. Depends how you want to spend your cash. Only £35 tax this year, £20 next year. I've made my choice, but I can always get on a motorcycle for my speed addiction |

| BP's gone from a GP to a 118d...and IMO it's just as quick as my S but does nearly double the MPG, and her tax is only £35...and £20 next year. I'm seriously thinking about changing to a Dooper...we'll be a 2 diesel family...how quaint!! ![]() DON'T WORRY LESLEY, YOU'RE STILL MY TRAINEE BIATCH!! ![]() |

| Extra £100 on tax... well saw that coming! As for fuel prices, doesn't really bother me either way, you always find a way to adjust to it either that or you give up driving your car. I own my car outright now so any cost to run it is relative and like many I couldn't care about emissions on my car because its far to easy to say there is worse out there. On top of all that with the mods on my MCS I seem to be getting 38mpg at the moment which isn't awful.. and if I need to go someplace else then I use the mule for that trip which is my faithful Diesel Fiat Punto (m reg and cost me £100 to buy) so can't complain really! By the time I had spent thousands getting a Dooper or in fact a diesel car that I think I could live with power / fun wise I doubt I would save that much anyway. Got to enjoy it motoring whilst I can and Im young so by the time I'm 60 I doubt there will be anything near what it is now. £35 per year to tax or not diesel is the fuel of the devil ! |

| I haven't even picked up my MINI yet but i'm already concerned as to how much its going to cost me. I only drive to work once a week but i will be taking part in a lot of runs and undoubtedly living it in most of my spare time! Think i'll have to budget myself a bit better as i'm sure i'll be the fuel companies top customer! |

| 3500k + 300 will get you a 180bhp 300lb/ft Ibiza Tdi that will do 14.8 ish qtr miles and still return roughly 45-50mpg without trying. My old one was more and it would wheelsspin in 4th with the standard 16's on |

| Cheers for the replies so far guys. Its not that i cant afford to run my car, its just annoying me a bit. I still love the car its brilliant, but i think its always worth keeping an eye on the ball if you know what i mean. AntFR i didnt know they had 300lb/ft like thats loads. How much does a standard face lift s have in lb/ft? My car will be deinatley staying for this year, and perhaps for longer! I would love just to keep it for the weekend and have a TDi for during the week. |

| I'm having the same problem but I don't want to change. My dad was looking at 1 series (but he wouldn't buy a diesel) as he's changing his car around easter time, so I was doing a bit of research for the tax of the petrols; 116i- £110 118i- £120 120i- £140 The fuel economy seems to be good on the petrols from 35-40MPG. | Cheers for that very useful info. I have driven the 116i and that felt very slow compared to my s (understanable), i think i would be leaning towards a diesel. Anyone driven the cooper d hatchback? |

| I've changed to the Cooper S from a 2.8 Z3 which had a serious drink problem. The mini isn't the most economical car out there but, considering the performance is almost the same as the Z3 on paper and it handles better in real life, i reckon it's pretty good. I get around 70 miles per £10 of petrol comapred with the 55 miles i would get in the Z3 |
