Posted similar thread on JCW forum but i thought i'd give you guys a call.

Took my 03 JCW in to the main dealer for an MOT (running perfect), it passed the MOT fine but as soon as i drove it out the car park it had this new problem, when using engine braking to slow down you'd get to 1200rpm in gears 3/4/5/6 you get a horrible jolt that sometimes even gives the transmission a bit of a wack, it's like you lose the engine brake for a split second and the car takes a lunge forward and then it's fine again slowing down further. Interestingly in 2nd it happens at 2000 rpm why? - took it back to them and got the usual 'we did'nt do anything' line (except scratch the roof )- they said it could be software fault and needed a re load (which took them 6 days!!!!) and guess what... it's still got the prob. I took it to an independent Mini guy and he re loaded the latest software but the problem is still there, unfortunatley the only other guess he has is it's possibly the Dual Mass Flywheel (i hope not) but he's not 100% convinced and it's an expensive excercise if he's wrong. Gear selection is fine and no noises. Anyone got any ideas?

Who was the independent Mini guy As the good ones know all the answers like Dave at ThinkMini-Worcester and there are others depending on where you live.

Tony at Mini Motorsport, this is the one time in his life i hope he's wrong - but in all honesty he's not completely convinced, just can't think what else it could be. I just think it's strange that in the space of an hour sitting on a ramp getting your brakes tested knackers the Flywheel.... i still thnk they did something.

What i would add is that i was very impressed with Tony and Mini Motorsport's set up down in Shoreham, great guy and knows his stuff, i only wish i had taken it there for the MOT instead of the Dealer.
