Help!!!!

Definitely new to this forum sorry if I posted in the wrong area. I own a 2004 MCS and the interior and exterior door handles don't work due to the extreme cold up here. My battery completely died today and I can't get in the car for the life of me. Anybody know how to fix this short of calling a locksmith or a towel and a fist?

Hi there,

Welcome to MINI2. From experience you will get a better response to your query by giving it a useful title; for example "flat battery - how to open doors"

From memory, when I removed my battery (whilst I was away), I was able to gain access by using teh key on the drivers door. It works like a normal lock.

Are you saying the lock barrel is frozen? In that case thaw it out bey using some sort of de-icer fluid or heat.

Cheers,

Dave

Lol good point. I was pretty distraught when I posted last night so ya know. The lock to the outside door handle itself isn't frozen any longer just the cable to the outside handle is disconnected. I am literally locked out of my car.

I'm confused.

Do you believe the doors frozen shut or that you've disconnected the cable that links the door handle to the door latch?

If it's just frozen, boil some water and pour along the door's seams or blow hot air along the edges of the door to melt any snow/ice that is keeping the door from opening.

I had doors freeze on me for the first tihis winter. Only in my instance, the doors were frozen with me INSIDE the car!! I had to roll down the window and make a Dukes of Hazard / General Lee dismount. Not pretty.

Luckily the car was in my garage at that point and both doors thawed overnight. I was kind of distraught when it happened because I had forced both door hadles because of ice accumulation and thought I had accidently disconnected to the door-opening mechanism.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Nah it's not frozen anymore. we're in the 50's right now so it's melted . It's the latching mechanism for the outside of the driver door nothing is connected to the door itself. I've got the weatherstripping off trying to hit the latch to pull it up. No luck so far. I just gotta get this battery out.
