what if your battery goes dead...

What if your battery goes dead and you need to boost it. Will the trunk open with no power? As you know the trunk is opened remotely and not actually directly/mechanically by the handle and the battery is in the trunk. Is there a manual release?

"look in the tunk."
"I think he means 'trunk'."

If memory serves, there are terminals under the hood you can use.

there's supposed to be a release cable under the back seat.

Correct, there is supposed to be, but not all cars have them

The owner's manual is very optimistic on this feature: I don't think any MINIs have the hatch release cable.

But yes, connecting jumper cables under the hood to a car with a dead (flat) battery will allow the hatch to be opened.

My 2003 MCS has the release, but you're supposed to use jumper cables on the terminal that's under the hood.

I stand corrected.

My understanding is the hatch release cable doesn't exist on 2001 and 2002 MINIs - and I thought the same was true for 2003's.

Nice to hear they've started equipping cars with features in the owner's manual.
