Oil Light flashing on and off

Hi there,

Recently got my oil changed at a local garage and since then have done less than 100 miles locally, noticed that the red oil light came on driving home today. Stopped straight away and checked the oil, as it's clean it's quite difficult to see the oil level, so I pressed it against a white paper towel - oil level was a little low (3 quarters full at least) so topped it up with a small amount of oil and it's been OK since....

Going to take it back to the garage tomorrow and ask them to check it over as this is the first time I've ever seen this light on the car.

Anyone think it could be something the garage hasn't done correctly when the oil has been changed?

Any help would be great!!

It's a Cooper S with 83k, always services on time and oil changes done regularly...

Get the garage to check this maybe but think it varies with year and model:

"Your MINI Cooper's oil filter has a cartridge that slips over a perforated center core that is attached to the inside of the oil filter cap. This core is spring loaded and is intended to add pressure to the filter when installing that seals it against the base. This must NOT be discarded! If it is thrown out with the old filter, the new filter won't seal properly and you'll register low oil pressure at idle"

Took the car back to the garage, they took the air filter off and check it... They said that the spring mount was inside the filter and it all looked good. Oil levels are fine and there are no leaks...

Thing is, I took the car on the motorway to give it a run tonight and once it had had a chance to warm up the oil light it on again...

It seems to come on when I press the accelerator, not every time just now and again. As soon as I take my foot of the accelerator the light go's off. This has only started happening since this oil change!!! so it's got to have something to do with it??

Can anyone help please??? Should I take the car to another garage and get it checked out properly or should I ask Mini to take a look at it?

Get the wiring harness cables to the oil warning light sensor checked on the engine, there have been cases of this getting knocked or damaged and then triggering the oil light as the engine moves and vibrates. It may have got knocked while mechanic was working in the engine bay. Also check the oil pressure sensor itself, they can fail.

It's back at the garage again today... on the way to the garage (when the engine was still cold) I was sat in lights and the light came on and went off once I accelerated.

Got a feeling it might be a bad oil pressure switch... they must have knocked it etc when changing the oil originally...

I've told the garage that if they cannot fix it before end of play Tuesday I'm taking it to Mini and they will have to pick up the costs...

Fingers crossed!!

Thanks again for your help!
