Can you drive the Mini S without the power steering pump.

Hi all,

My power steering pump is making a lot of noise. It is probably failing. I can get them rebuilt for $225. (let me know if anyone a bettterdeal(
Problem is that I dont have time to take it out myself and was going to have the guy I have that sometimes works on my cars do the job. But he cannot keep the car there for 7 days inside and I dont want to leave it outside in his area for 7 days.

Can you remove the pump and still drive the car? Just to get it home?

Does anyone have a bad pump that I can buy to send in and have it rebuilt so I can just swap them out/

Any help appreicated.

Nah pump is an integral part of the rack. I wouldn't be trying to drive it without the pump.

I had a power cable fall off once while doing 110 km/h.... the steering gets REALLY heavy

You can drive without the pump, but it is a real pain to steer got to have strong arms. The other problem is you will damage your rack if you go too long with out pump then you will be replacing both.
