A Mini battery in Halfords ranges from about £80-100 depending on length of warranty (in years) but as I have a trade card my £90 Mini battery was discounted to £60.

No problems swapping battery but remember to re-connect the small plastic breather vent pipe if fitted.

As the Cooper S battery is in the boot it is best to replace battery before totally flat otherwise the rear boot/hatch release handle will not work.........there should be an emergency manual cable pull release under the rear seat cushion if this happens, see handbook.

I looked around and decided to get the gen BMW battery. £130 inc fitting.
Yuasa was also recommended, but I couldn't get one in Plymouth.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.

I've order one from performace batteries uk.

£50 inc delivery.

Its a Alphaline make got good reviews on the site and they recommend them, seems to have good spec compared to other.

Thanks again

I would recommend a Bosch battery, S4002 4 year g'tee £51 inc delivery on-line. fits the same as the original including the vent pipe ( you will find a little blanking plug moulded on to the terminal protector, make sure you use it or fumes could develop in the car) the s was fitted with a 45AH or 55AH depending on spec, warning most stores say that the standard fitment is 45AH

United-Kingdom Cooper S oil service....

Thanks for the info.

I've had the new Alphaline battery in for a week now with no problems, it installed with no fuss.

So far so good.

I've just has my head in our '02 mini one bonnet, and seen what I think is a battery tube. Doesn't look like its attached to anything at the moment. I'll investigate more later.

What problem is the vent tube there to elieviate ? Never seen one on another car.

Also where does it vent too? Doesn't look big enough to get anywhere but about 6 inches from the battery terminal.
