Self leveling headlights - non xenon!?

I havn't posted in here much as the MCS is my girlfriends so havn't really been tinkering other than general maintenance.

We have the non xenon headlights -unfortunately! The light output is about as much use as a candle so I fitted some Osram nightbreakers last night to try and help. When I turned the ignition and lights on to check all was okay once fitted, I noticed that they self adjusted. Moved up and then down to the correct height just as a car with xenons would. I thought it was a bit odd and as I dont drive the car much I've never seen it do this before. I also parked it in front of the garage door so could see the reflection.

My question is do all Mini's do this? Would I be able to install an aftermarket HID kit and this be legal in this car or not? We dont have headlight washers though.

Forgive my ignorance/confusion, I'm a VW man!

Sadly that isn't the headlights self-levelling, it's just them going from low to high and back again at start-up*. The level of non-xenon 2nd Gen lights is controlled only by the switch on the steering column (and the screws on the back of the light fitting). Your girlfriend's car won't have the sensors on the front and rear suspension, the wiring connecting them, nor the larger screenwash bottle that is found in a pukka xenon car.

* Someone will want to tell me this is the lights "setting themself up" but I think it's probably just another Mini tacky feature.

Ah, thanks for the reply mate. I thought it was going to be too good to be true but worth an ask. Looks like I will have to stick to the crappy standard lights instead!

Upgrade to Sylvania Silverstar bulbs that are brighter, there are three brightness adaptions for the car. Also, you can add driving lights for under $150.
