HCW little black box behind ECU?

Just had a poke about in the engine bay and spotted an extra fuse coming out the fuse box. Red wires goes to a plug inside the fuse box and then onto a little black box stuck to the firewall, behind the ECU, about the size of a relay with a JCW stamp on it. Also in the plug is a yellow wire that goes off into the ECU plug.

Just interested to know what this box is? Some kind of piggy back Chip?

Sounded like a tracker box until I read your full post. Is your car a factory JCW or a dealer JCW? If the box has JCW stamped on it then I would have thought it was part of the JCW upgrade.

it will be to control the flap on the JCW airbox

It's a Gen one so a delaer fit. Was fitted to the car around 6 weeks after it was first registered according to the sticker on the ECU/Cert.
