Buying an 05 S maybe-----

I'm thinking of buying an 05 S , but have reservations , I'm in Australia and this really isn't a country to get caught in with a cranky Euro car.

Having had a couple of WRX's and an R34GT-t without any issues regarding gearbox's and stuff generaly or parts availability in a moment of dribbling dementia I bought a Colt CZC Turbo , in my defence I assumed it was made in Japan---ha silly me , designed by the Italians and made by the Dutch , who really should stick to cheese, flowers and dope if this car is anything to go by.

The only Japspec thing in the car is the engine , which, I'm pleased to say, goes reliably and like a scalded earwig on steroids.

Aaaah but wait , to offset the engine goodness the gearbox is a Getrag 5 speed , the same model as the Mini , near as dammit is to swearing - and this gearbox has caused me to swear plenty.

Point being how much stuff on an 9 year old Cooper S, one owner, service records, no apparent mods, 65000miles, is likely to just break and give problems ?

For example stuff like the rear quarter light window regulator on the 2007 CZC that just fraked up for no apparent reason today and is costing me 400 quid , yep AUS$720.00 just for the regulator and thank Christ I'm handy enough on the spanner to be able to change it myself so no labour.

Stuff Like that

Mine have been fine for the most part. Just minor niggles really - check the front ball joints and track control arm bushes, that's been the biggest weakness on 2 of my 3 MK1 Cooper S.
