DIY Mini Cooper S engine issues

Hi all

I am new to the forum and have joined as we are having few issues with my wife's mini Cooper S. We've had the car nearly a year and it's done 89k miles. It's a 54 reg car.

So the issues we are as follows:
  • Car rattles, sounds like a tractor when idling. Noise disappears when clutch is pressed
  • When pulling away from junctions there is a squeal noise. We think it's coming from the clutch but not sure. Clutch doesn't appear to be slipping and it only happens 1 in 10 times pulling away.
  • Engine seems to drone/whine when cruising along in 5th/6th gear.

So overall the car is sounding rough and the squeal noise is very annoying. We've taken it to our local garage but they can't diagnose the squeaking issue so thought I ask on here to see if other owners had experienced similar issues

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi ya

Is it a standard r53, if it is it Sounds like your dual mass flywheel is rattling or your thrust bearing is on it's way out.
your squealing sounds like a thrust bearing or you clutch plate is slightly glazed.
the drone / whine could possible be a wheel bearing or badly worn run flats.

Hope this helps

Throwout bearing bad. Might do whole clutch as you do not want to do twice. Clutch sets stock are $400 a set figure 4X the $ to do at dealer, take to an outsource. Can be done if a car guy good videos on youtube.

HELP MINI COOPER S 2006 sounds terrible

Please help, just bought a 2006 Cooper S 57000 miles on the clock, I bought it knowing it needed a new exhaust so just had it replaced with a performance exhaust and also needed the tracking doing however the tracking couldn't be done the normal way as the bolt was welded so the had to saw off the wheels?

Got it back home and noticed a few things are going wrong ... Fog lights aren't working no light on the dash when switched on? The drivers window won't go back up however can hear the motor so it's not dead?

Then the worst bit drove to work and my car for the whole journey 25 miles sounded like a tractor? What's going on? I have had timing chain tensioner issues in my old car a bmw 1 series but that shock the car this doesn't do that just sounds very loud?

Please help if had the car 3 weeks and if had to take it off the road! Thank you
