Blue Cooper Mcs r53 2006

Hi all! First of all I would like to say what a great informative community you have here. I have been lurking around for a couple of days gathering information but I think its time I ask my own q.s before committing to a mini.

I was swaying between the R56 08 and the R53 06 Cooper S. After doing extensive online research I have come to the conclusion that the first line of R56 MCS are somewhat problematic engine wise, with cam chain problems, carbon composite problems etc (I have also witnessed this)... I have also read about problems with the R53 (2002-2004) but have gained the impression that the 05-06 R53 are the ones to go for because most problems had been solved by then thus BMW finalized a more reliable car? I also prefer the look an feel of the R53.

Then again, a car is a car no matter what company or what reputation so I am to expect any problem from anything I buy

Is it true that the late R53 (05-06) models are the best models to go for when it comes to engineering and reliability (considering they still have their own problems but not as extreme as the R56)? I have also heard that the R56 models are somewhat more mainstream and were a money saving model for BMW whereas the R53's were more over engineered to give a good first impression of the the new MCS??

Also the getrag gearbox and Chrysler engine in the R53 tend to be more reliable compared to the Citroen|Peugeot prince engines of the R56?

Like I said, this is all based on info I have gathered on the internet. Any input is appreciated, thank you

Yes ... the R53 Tritec engine is pretty bullet proof while the R56 N14 has had problems and needs decoking.
