Cooper S Blowing Exhaust

Hi guys, only had my r53 mcs a month or so, basically everything has been fine, then went i took it for (admittedly quite a high speed ) run down the motorway for a commute today, I got out and noticed that to the left of the exhaust tips, a bit of that plastic trim had a hole melted right through it.

I pinpointed the blow, its coming from my backbox, so I will obviously need to get a new one, but I have two questions about it.

1) The black trim that doesnt look like its actually a part of the bumper itself, is there anywhere I can get that part? Or does the whole bumper need replacing? Sorry about the newbieness I'm honestly not too sure whether that black trim just clips off or not sorry!

2) I was considering changing backboxes anyway, just something to give the car a bit more of a suited sound.. bit deeper, like a jcw backbox. Does anyone have any reccomendations for new backboxes (I've heard about Sportex being quite good) and is there anything else I need to consider when changing my backboxes on the car? Not 100% sure how the exhaust system actually works under a mini, sorry about the newbieness

If you dont get what I mean cause my explanation is probably terrible, I'll put a couple pictures up tomorrow when its light.

Thanks in advance

Aaron

Hi ya

Depending on which back box has gone a good cheep mod to do is a "one ball mod"
Basically re routes the exhaust and deletes one box. See photos GTTuning sell the kit or if you have a good exhaust place near you it will be easy for them to do very easy job.
car sounds better but not loud more pops and bangs :-)

left picture is standard set up right is with one ball mod

I am not 100% on your trim problem but is it item 1 on this link. if so there not much from bmw 30 ish

hope this help

Thanks for replying

The trim I mean is the diffuser, I couldn't remember the name (noobie error) but figured it out eventually and have ordered one so thats fine

Regarding the exhaust, that gtt one ball re-route pipe looks and sounds brilliant. Absolutely ideal for what I want from the car so thanks for suggesting that.
Only downside is that the blow is coming from the backbox on my passenger side, and from those pictures and ones I've been looking at of the underside of the car, its the backbox on the drivers side that needs to be removed for this mod if I'm correct?

Thanks again

Very helpful, thank you.

I've emailed MiniMatt to inquire about the box because I'd rather avoid getting the whole system if possible, for what it's worth, for that kind of price, I may consider pushing the boat out and getting an aftermarket system.

God, such hassle just for a small blow in the box haha

My last question to you is, what aftermarket complete system would you recommend that won't be too too loud?

Cheers

Hi ya
there are some good options out there depending on budget and you future goals with mods and performance.

You have

JCW
Milltek
Janspeed
Scorpion
Quicksilver
Playmini
Jetex
Bora
OBX
Supersprint

And the list goes on, there are some good drive buys on youtube if that's any help.

The price ranges go from 250-300 ish to well into the thousand pound mark
Keep an eye out in the classifieds and ebay sometimes there are some good deals to be had
