2003 MCS Xenon Ignitor Replacement

Hi,

I have a UK May 2003 MCS, the passenger side Xenon dip-beam only comes on intermittently, I have swapped the control units and the bulbs and the fault still remains on the same side, so after a bit of reading, I've concluded it must be the ignitor.

As mine is the pre-facelift version, can anyone on here tell me how to replace the ignitor and where would be best to purchase from......or is the best thing to replace the headlamp unit itself (hope not, as this sounds expensive).

Any help gladly received, thanks

Hi ya

Have a look at this link item 7 copy the part no put it in google they are not just for minis.

RealOEM.com * BMW R53 Cooper S Headlight, electronic parts, Xenon light

You should be able to get one from a breakers or ebay

Mini matt or bm spares I would say are your best bet for breakers

You can swap from side to side as you say, if you have swapped the control unit and ignitor and the problem is still there, you will need to start looking at wiring, fuses, fuse box and earths.

Just be careful messing with these lights they are very high voltage

Hi, thanks for the information.

Unfortunately mine is the type where the igniter is within the headlamp itself and not part of the connector on the back of the bulb, so the only bits I've been able to swap/check is the bulbs and the control units.

Hi

Just had a quick look at mine there the same as the real oem pic

On mine the loom in the bonner plugs in to the back of the light unit. from that connector it then is routed to the control unit though the headlight unit it's self.
and then to ignitor on the back off the bulb just looks like a black connector plug .
Any chance you can post a pic of the back of the light assy
This may be a usefull link for future ref :-)
