Question regarding boot opening? I'm sure it says something in the handbook along the lines of. If you hold the open button on the remote key down for about 5 seconds, that the hatch back will open slightly or release? All mine seems to do, if I hold it down for more the 5 secs is open the windows. Am I missing the point or something???? I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't see anything in the FAQ. |

| Cheers Paul, I was trying varying different angles of attack. You know standing on your head, lying under the car and still the same result, the windows open!!!! So the only way to open the boot is push the button on the back??? |

| Re: Oh that explains it!!! That would have been a sight to see. I hope it was in a garage or you neighbours may be talking! The only other choice (than pressing the button) is to ask the dealer if they will swap one feature for the other. Paul |

| Re: Oh that explains it!!! Yes. The best that can be accomplished with programming is to semi-unlock the boot latch - but the hatch remains in the down position partially latched! This means that programming option is utterly and completely useless as you still must complete the opening procedure by walking up to the car and pressing the rubber covered button above the rear license plate with your hand to complete the unlatching and then lifting the hatch open. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

| I had a Ford Puma once, that when you pushed the button, automatically opened the hatch, all the way. Well it did in the summer time, in the winter the hydraulic dampers that pushed the hatch up as soon as it was opened, seem to be a lot stiffer and not quite do the job. A very handy function in the warmer weather, when it seemed to work ok. |

| Does this "new" feature of opening the windows by holding down the remote {open} button cover all MINIs. I admit I havnt tried it on my MCS, because when I owned a COOPER last year & wanted this feature ,I was told by the dealership that it wasnt an option. I just assumed that was still the case. ![]() |

| Bruce, are you sure this is how it should work? I'm pretty sure this is a sign of a poorly aligned hatch. It should unlatch itself but shouldn't pop open when you hold the button down. Then you just need to lift the deck lid to open it, you don't need to press the button. If you need to press the button then the hatch is misaligned. The comfort opening has another side effect. When it is programmed you can no longer open the windows using the key in the lock by holding it. Strange, but true. (Why would they do this???) | Re: Re: Re: Oh that explains it!!! THEY don't. There are two options. Comfort opening via remote, and comfort opening by the key. You can have both switched on at once, as my Cooper, Abi's One, and her Dad's Cooper S all have this both ways. |

| Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Oh that explains it!!! There's some printouts of the options on here somewhere. But we've got three cars within 10 miles that have it. One of them in addition to selective locking as well. It can be done. |

| Closing the glass by remote is not allowed for safety reasons. You can though close them by holding the key in the closed position in the door lock. Opening by remote is allowed and I believe this is now standard replacing the hatch opening. If you don't have it you should be able to have it programmed. I think MINI dealers should ask each customer before delivery which options they want to be programmed. |

Hi Restyle, In a word, yes. On all new Minis the "comfort" facility means that if you hold down the unlock button for 5 seconds, both windows and sunroof open. My dealer told me that this has now replaced the earlier facility of unlocking the tailgate with the remote. I had this on the Cooper and all it did was just that, unlock it and open it a fraction but you still had to physically open it with the handle by pressing the handle as it remained on the latch! My S has the new facility which will be great in the Summer.................only one problem, you can't reverse the procedure by pressing the lock button for five seconds! Would have been such a great additional facility....total closure if you like! Also, you need to keep holding the unlock button until everything is fully open otherwise it will stop when you let go. Like Paul says, the dealer can allegedly reprogramme the ECU with all sorts of features. When I had the Cooper the handbook said that a simple reprogramme would disconnect the passenger airbags. Now I need this feature to carry a baby in the front the dealer tells me that it will cost £200 as they need to replace the passenger seatbelt. You also have to sign a disclaimer which is understandable in this day and age! |

Tailgate realease?? Guys, Just a quick question on this Tailgate release. The tailgate seems to release on our MINI almost imediately after pressing the unlock button on the Key (less than 2 seconds, not the 5 seconds everyone else talking about). Also, should the red "tailgate open" warning light on the speedo come on when you use this facility? My wife tells me that every time she jumps in the MINI, the tailgate open warning light is on and the tailgate is already open and she swears she hasn't been holding the unlock button down for more that 2 seconds. Ayyone got any ideas on this??? (Should I beleive the wife?!) Thanks, Matt |

| Re: Tailgate realease?? Don't let her have the keys..... Seems to me that you may have a faulty sensor, the light should only be on when the tailgate isn't actually fully closed properly. Either that or you have a faulty wife, trade her in for a new model!!! Seriously, I have never inadvertantly opened the tailgate with the key, so you/she shouldn't be seeing this light on unless either the sensor is malfunctioning, or there is something stopping the tailgate closing properly.... |
