Hi, Just got my 2004 Cooper S and I have noticed that when I drive, mainly on slower roads, thats the steering is a bit all over the place. I can only describe it as the steering wheel feels like it snatches from left to right. It feels a little like trying to control a push bike with really thin wheels going over very uneven ground.
I know it isn't the tracking as this would just pull to one side and I had it checked. It isn't wheel balancing as had that checked. Tyre pressures are all equal. It had two new tyres at the rear just before I bought it and the front ones still have plenty of tread and look evenly worn on each side. The MOT advisory was that there was slight seepage from the power steering pump.. not sure if it could be to do with that although there is plenty of fluid and apparently it would start to whine if that was an issue (although I could have had false information there)
I just wondered if anyone had other suggestion I could easily check before taking it to a garage and getting them to spend days on end checking things and costing me a fortune... It seems to sort itself out on dual carriage ways and motorways.
Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
