At the moment, i have the normal sized tires (205/45 R17) on my 2005 MCS. but i have 186hp at the wheels, and i intent to get that number as high as possible, but i notice i struggle for grip sometimes and i would prefer wider tires (215s).
I was looking at the Toyo Proxes R888R but im unsure of the aspect ratio on the tire. I dont want the tire to stick out too much, or more importantly rub on the plastic.
I'm also unsure on the alloy sizes, as they do theirs in inches. I was looking at the Rota Slipstreams to go with the R888R and i would prefer 16inch alloys. Has anyone got 215 size tires with 16inch alloys or know anyone who does that can help me?
Personally the maximum wheels on MS or MSD would be 18's because anything above that will harm the standard suspension. We have on our MSD R56LCI tires and wheels: 205/45/17 ContiSportContact™ 5 and 17inc/48 offset/OZ racing Italy 150 and for me that's enough. Comparing S & SD we have more torque in SD (376 Nm) and we don't have any problem with the transfer of power to the surface. Perhaps the problem is in the tires you have !! ::wink::
A lot of people use 215/45/17 without any problem, as long as the offset is close to stock.
Usually more for price or selection rather than to increase the section width,
but it's only a little taller and wider.
For 16" wheels, 205/50/16, 205/55/16, 215/50/16 and 215/45/16 are all possible, but
the first size is closest to stock, the second has the best selection, and there is very
little selection in the 3rd or 4th size listed. The stock 195/55/16 works, of course,
but not the best selection or performance there.
Going to 18s or more is just going to make things heavier and stiffer.
Some like how that looks, but it doesn't help performance.
I have 215/45r17w Federal RSR595's on the original Ronal Web Design split rims which are ET48, and now with 11mm spacers on the front, which were added with coilovers recently and set to approx. 5mm lower than the Sports Plus suspension, no rubbing before or after, and the car at the last tune was 216whp, now it just had the standard head swapped so will be more, and the tyre size is great, only now showing signs of struggling for grip under acceleration in third and fourth in the dry on some roads, the standard tyres wouldn't have a chance, and these tyres simply highlight the inefficiencies of the standard brakes and engine mounts, so I changed them earlier in the year too, now it's a good compromise although harsher than I'd like due to the dampers alone. These tyres should have come standard on the car imo.
