I bought a used 2004 Mini Cooper S (R53) with a 6 gear manual transmission about 3 months ago. The reverse is to the left of the 1st gear, and ever since I bought it it was hard to put it in reverse. At first I thought it was something I needed to get used to and I kinda did, but it srarted to get harder and harder to put it in reverse. Today I couldn't get it in reverse at all. I think the problem might me in the gearshift linkage, but I have no idea how to check this. I would like to fix this myself. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

It will be the selector link pin thats seized, try splatting it with WD 40 first and if this doesn't do the job then look in to a new selector pin (under a tenner to buy). You can test the pin by popping off the cables and if its stiff then thats your problem. Lube it up and work the pin hinge until its free!
