Too bad that Conversion is not available to those in the states...

Everytime you mod a Mini a VW cries.

...and I almost had made the decision to buy the Works kit. Oh well.... I guess in another few months we´ll soon have a 250-260 hp kit at a good price, and new brakes to handle the beast.

Great post kenny - always interest in this kind of subject...

My only criticism (not of subject / but magazine article):
All these car mags (yes EVO included) play up these conversion kits for all their worth, typically filling pages with Bull**** and add a couple of nice pics at the end of engine + exterior (almost stock photography shots)

I feel this just isn't enough. . . we're buying your magazine for some information. . .not gossip - aren't we? ? ?

After a recent dyno day and the chance to see many different ways to modify, upgrade, add a conversion to your car - a dyno chart seems a very good way to portray the kind of information we all want to see.

In figures, what do you get for your money!?

That way we can compare what we might have already seen before in terms of BHP or Torque, to what we are respectively reading about - We then will not just look at a rather standard spread of yet another MINI Cooper S going uphill, taking a corner, going round a bend, and another opening up of the bonet for what looks like yes another supercharger shot!

Not that I'm being critical here - but are these magazine reports, reports or what?!!?
Why don't the likes of EVO set up some form of standard (more than the 5star system that every mag seems to adopt) - that way we can get a real perspective of what is actually performing, being written about , and driven!

Back to the thread:
This looks a very interesting piece of kit - I am just getting a little frustrated trying to decide on whether I can believe what I'm reading. . .

Come on EVO, put all the major conversion kits possible together for all types of MINI, in an all out 'Showdown special feature' for the MINI One, MINI Cooper, & MINI Cooper S with Dyno charts available - I bet you would make your best sales for the year in 1 months retail!?

All because of the MINI!

Last word:
Bring out the dyno chart - show us the torque!!

Just make sure you test them all on the same dyno at the same time in the same conditions and quote nothing but WHP or you'll get a bit of flack.

Haha Max...
I agree with you totally...

Max - I am drawn to your GGR way of thinking - cost will have a lot to do with it for me! - your kit is looking like the right sort of retail for me But the drive and feel will make the deal at the end of the day, (yours I have tested & like very much). . .

all I was trying to get at - was that I think magazine features contain too much bull**** sales blurb and not enough real info - OK so some guy (or gal) has thrashed it around a track & says it's great - but who are we to know?? - Like you say, we need to drive it!

Not meaning to cause a stink - but if a magazine took the time to set up a conditioned set of parameters in which it tested and published the results of all Dyno tests for featured cars - I think it would make very interesting reading for all...

It would be nice to read all this hype, & then see a chart - as Paul said - set in the same time & in the same conditions - just for comparison if nothing else. . .

Paul - I hope the flack hasn't taken it's toll - the dyno day was a great experience & eye opener!!

I feel I have expressed more than a common interest in this conversion... Sorry for slight diversion of topic

i can see positives in lots of things being said here

and i agree about the magazines (excuse the pun) glossing over what are the real facts and figures needed.

but my major concern is having ordered and about ot take delivery of my MCS do i get the general feeling that 163bhp just inst enough...

and have you guys invalidated the warranties?

or will BMW cover some parts..and the upgraders there bits?

MCS should be in dealers 21st july....i pray i dont meet you guys on the road....youll blow my bloody doors off...

paul

I'm sure you havent taken it that personal Paul but with every dyno being different and every operator having different % losses you can understand why Whp is the defining factor.

I learned this from Tony*t3.

........

Hey Max, I still feel kind of guilty for giving your car a 'good seeing too' the other day... Not THAT guilty though!! It reminds me of the time that I took a sales reps own car out for a test drive (early production MR2 GTI from 1990... anyway, when I took it back she said "fast isn't it? I haven't taken it over 100 yet as I am running it in..." I didn't mention that I had vmaxed it at 158mph indicated..... and held it there!

I have seen the mag article now, and was interested in the photo of the hood scoop modifications, 'as designed by Williams F1 friend blah blah blah.....' I have to say, this is one of the worse looking after market addons I have ever seen, so it had better work REALLY well!!!

Well thats a tough one mate!

Initially i felt that 163bhp was fine, was just right for my daily driver car but then i saw Angrybeats' Mini shift and i thought "i'll have some of that!". It's down to you really, you may not want more power, i think its just the knowledge that there's much more power out there so easily available and the clincher is knowing the chassis can easily handle 200bhp!

Here's what i think.

BBR have missed the boat, they can't get any more power than anyone else (anyone know if its a dyno'd power graph or rolling road figure?) so they come up with a 'gimmick' or marketing aid to try and persuade us lot that their car's suitably different and worth buying.
