To be honest a bare JCW with aero pack and manual air con is the best resale version. (Personally I would go for a CR/W with Aero and JCW plus aircon + TLC = approx £19765) - but then again a RS was available for £19995 with leather etc and exclusivity guaranteed!

Sukhjit- MINI NOW GONE - did have a 2002 MCS - Dark Silver / Black with Chili pack

You should never really buy a car thinking of resale value down the line
Yes be shrewd in what you buy to avoid heavy depreciation, but you should buy a car that you will be happy with and enjoy. If you skimp and compromise on items, you will regret it later down the line

Washy has got the right idea in speccing to the hilt. I rejected the idea of a stripped out JCW as I know I'd miss the luxury items e.g. sunroof, MFSW etc. There's always an option to add the JCW at a later stage, but options once ommitted are difficult to add on

Out of interest - stories about the RS? (torque steer and Clarksons views etc or from owners?) - they are impossible to get hold of granted - but they are selling well over list for 6 month versions with 6K on the clock!

I like the toys...the MINI is a good bet for low depreciation anyway
As Martin says get the car you are most happy with...

I have heard that the engine may not be that durable as it has been really stretched to get the HP required...This is from a good source..

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Spec change

True, but then you add the 17" runflats to the S-Spokes making them even more expensive

Mulletman mentioned that he heard that a few people didn't have any problems substituting their S-Spokes for X-Lites (Not Pepperoni). I think it depends on the dealership.

Cost price they're all probably around the same but it's all down to what people are prepared to pay.
Take the difference between a saloon version of a car versus a hatchback...
Saloons are traditionally cheaper to produce then the hatchback version but saloons always cost more. Why???
Becuase they are percieved to be the superior product

It's all about marketing and TBH I really do think the profit margin on the s-spokes are far higher then x-lites hence the reluctance to swap s-spokes for x-lites.

This is only my analysis of the situation and if I were the bosses of MINI I'd do the same

My dealership were not keen...
I have decided to go down the aftermarket wheel sticky tyre and can of foam route or the S spokes sticky tyre and can of foam route....I am sure a lot of the problems with the ride/handling on the 17's are caused by the run flats.

If the dealership offered to substitute the S-Spokes for X-Lites, wouldn't that be a dealer fit and become a modification which would bump up your insurance premium?

You are correct Kinster.
But as mine are coming from the factory and not a dealer fit I'm OK on the insurance front
Basically my car will have no chilli pack and be specced up instead as seperate items
When I was offered the free clear lights, MINI UK were going to classify them as factory fit even though they would've been dealer installed. This was so that they would be covered by the manufacturers full 3rs warrantee and not the 1yrs dealer guarantee for aftermarket parts

To be honest I don't find the Runflats that bad. Yes the ride is a bit harsh but after driving my g/f's car and getting a puncture on a busy roundabout, I'm sticking with them. Well at least until they need replacing...

-->Oh and did I read Shams thinking of getting a Black S.... Oi .......

Apparently EVO magazine reckon their car is a lot better without the runflats...thought I might give it a try....

The M3 has no spare and no runflats...just the foam so I am used to it.

We all know black is the way to go....

I'm used to runfalts now and they are good for piece of mind
I'm sure normal tyres are OK too , but if the tyre shreds or comes off the rim a can of goo won't really help
However BMW emergency services will come to your aid if reuqired.
I guess it jusst depends on the risk and hassle you want to take if you want to go for runflats or not.

I'm sure you'll change your mind about runflats Washy when you're left standing by the side of the road, in the cold and rain figuring what to do with a can of goo
