I've recently bought a Sony laptop - a PCG-K315S (model) nice machine but its darned heavy. Looked at Toshiba, but the screen on this is just stunning... but for work I wish I had gone for the Tosh, just so much easier to carry around

Depends on whether you have a suitable modem or not, and what you want to do when youre connected.

I have a BT cable modem for work use, and a Netgear wireless modem / router firewall thingy for wireless access as my modem won't work with a just a router.

This is so I can have wireless access if need be, and it also gives my son a web connection in his room.

He has a USB dongle on the PC which "talks" to the wireless thingy.

Only thing is the wireless modem won't allow me to connect to the server via VPN......so that stops me from working in the garden when it's nice outside.....

BTW, I've got a Dell Precision M60 laptop with a 16:9 widescreen, even working with Pro/Engineer all day is fine, even without a "large" monitor.....

This is mine, although I do find it a bit heavy to cart around......

I'd be careful with Dell laptops, we only have three laptops here including mine and we've had 2 hard drive failures and two motherboard failures in two years... fixed under warranty but still a PITA....

Not necessarily.......it depends what kind of modem you've got, and how it can be connected to the router......my "free" modem that I got with BT BB, won't work with a router or gateway.....so I had to buy a wireless modem / router.

I'm probably not the best to advise, as I'm sure there's others on here who are more knowledgeable on the subject than me.

I paid £45 in PC world for my wireless modem, (in the January sales), and £25 for the USB dongle, so fully wireless for less than £70! The modem was supposed to be £90.....

We use nothing but Dell here in our company, partnership agreement
Yes there are sometimes failures, e.g. hard-drives but replacement times are fast, usually next business day. This will happen with any manufacturer, it's all about luck in the compenents. What you should be more concerned about is their response time. As Dell one of the largest suppliers in the world their support is second to none.

Oh and I can get you a nice discount

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime
