I have been out to play with Tonyt3 and s_and_m who both drive tin tops on a few occasions and they will both tell you (I think) that the convertible does not loose much to the tin top around the circuit. The convertible still has the same weeknesses ie Brakes and I have gone down the route with braided hoses, 5.1 fluid, drilled and slotted discs as well as performance pads. This has seen the end of brake fade and I am very happy with the brake set up on the car. The other area is tyres and I run toyo t1r's all round.

My biggest issue at the moment with the convertible is using the car phone in it as it really is too noisy on the nokia blue tooth car kit that I had installed. I can hear very easily but the people at the othe other end complain about the noise at my end. I am tempted to go for the roof next time around for this reason alone.

Not so bad so

Yeah, the brakes are definitely the weakest link on the S......

The bit of shake you get is one of the things that scared me off the cabrio - the Irish roads are not quite mirror smooth - and I feared that would shake the car to bits over a period of time, certainly causing more potential rattles.

Plus, where I live , on the North-West coast, the weather is certainly NOT guaranteed sunny......

Good to hear it can keep up on the track - I have seen Steve in action over here on MtM.......

I had a problem with that too.... I now just use a bluetooth headset, works fine, but gets uncomfortable on long journeys!

You'll want an Aero Kit on that car I think R105s would look good too.......

Thats a way , way as far away as you can get from a sensible diesel......

Totally agree with that. I got the wiring harness form Mikey and the nokia Blue tooth kit from ebay. I fitted it my self in about an hour and all that for about £100. Works very well and all linked into the HK Hifi in the car. The only issue as mentioned above is the amount of road noise in the convertible at motorway speeds.

I tried one of those but the battery in the head sets lasts for about a nano second before going flat, plus I hate the discomfort. I tend to be on the phone continuously whilst driving my car in the week.

I just tend to answer the phone, people then realise I am driving, with the roof down of course, say what they want and then hang up

They know there will be no audible response from me, what with the whine of the supercharger and the exhaust, then the wind noise too

Includes the armrest. I'd go aftermarket but I want to voice control, it's so James Bond I just couldn't resist the cool factor!

I read there's problems with hk/sat nav and the icelink? If not I'd certainly consider it...

But its far from foolproof - had it on my last 5 series , and my current , month old 325 Sport - while its improved since 04, its still prone to mishearing you.......

I've heard they can be had for around £1,300 ? No Aero at all on the S, will have to be fitted by your dealer

not at the moment with the nokia kit, all depends on the phone you have, Mikey is the best to talk to on this before you order from dealer

Hmmm, have to think about that one, it is cool, but perhaps I could invest the money on something else cool....

and the other thing to keep in mind is that you get the wheels the car comes with, so those could be sold on for about £450-500, so they aren't that bad in price
