So there'll soon be a fairly high spec R8 available on the used car market?

ARC--the Taurus was/is larger than the Mondeo. US version of the Mondeo (when we had one) was called the Contour--which was a de-contented version of the Euro base model. Hence, it was underpowered, built worse than Washy's Ka, and prone to shed parts.

My mom had a Contour SE, which excited me until the glovebox door fell off. She traded it in on a Taurus.

As for the Cayman (essentially a hardtop version of the same car)... nice.

This Porsche 944 looks a lot like the one my Dad used to have (I'm certain it's the same colour, and I think the wheels look familiar so might be the same):

His was also a left-hand drive model, as he had it in the USA.

TBH I was never a convertible type of bloke until i had my boxster... you just cant beat it... blatting accross the moors, summers evening fantastic...

the big issue with the Cayman is is it really worth the money over the Boxster... I love the cayman but until prices drop to the boxster level it'll always be second best...

for example an 06 cayman S will set you back about 37k... you can get a 6 month old Boxster S with the cayman engine for that

I can see the convertible appeal, but like Neil,I think I'd look a plonker in one, especially living in a small town

I still love the Speccin' Thread - despite not having much internet time these days, its still my fave place on M2

Hence the Z4 is no longer an option for me, it looks just too odd with the roof up, sorry Chris
It's all the reason I have a MX5 and will get a TT.

Again the MX5 looks great with the roof up too, unfortunately I'm not so keen on the roadster MX5. However clever and neat the roof it just doesn't look balanced when up, sorry Hat

The TTR IMHO looks better then the coupe even when the roof is up. The lines are better, sorry Aiden

But all that said I would prefer a hard top for MY car. However as we have a hardtop MINI, it's MY car that needs to be a drop top unitl we swap the MINI

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

The speccin thread is excellent - I just love seeing what you folks are buying next, and long for the day when I can spec myself a new MINI, Audi or Beemer

Until then, it'll be the used car forecourts for me

The general car chat is always good too

Ah ok, I just always assumed it was the same car. Thanks for setting that straight.

I have borrowed convertible cars, I get regular use of them when I'm in the States visiting my folks - I just really feel quite vulnerable in a convertible. That detracts from the enjoyment of the drive for me... so I think I can beat it - with a proper roof!

Wow - I didn't know the Cayman was that expensive! I just assumed it would be similar to Boxster prices.

The price my dad paid for his 2.7 Cayman, he could have had a Boxster S and other goodies like 19's... but again he doesn't like the idea of a convertable,

Get well soon

Having owned one and nearly owned the other I actually prefer the Cayman to the Boxster....I have said it before but I actually prefer the Cayman to a 911...(although I have not driven a turbo or GT3)

Really?

Such a problem for me being 6ft5 and well built... it virtually rules out any roadsters

The SLK is about the only one that I fit - and that's a proper hairdressers motor

I tried a Smart roadster once, could only just get one butt cheek in it
