MCS performance figures/stats ???

I was just at the bookstore this eveing and I noticed that the latest issue of Car and Driver (US) featured a shootout of 10 modified 4cylinder cars. Among the primarily Japanese combatants was a MINI Cooper S.

For those of you wondering, the MINI came in third place overall.

My question for everyone out there came about after reading the test results for this particular MINI. Specifically, this particular car was only able to generate a 1/4 mi. time of 15.7 seconds in spite of the fact that it featured numerous engine mods that allegedly bumped the ponies up to 245 hp.

Now I realize that a number of factors effect track times including air temp., humidity, fuel, driver etc. but I guess I expected something better out of such a heavily modified machine. I thought I remembered reading somewhere the test results of a stock MINI Cooper S and I seemed to recall the 1/4 mile time being 15.7 seconds as well.

Am I remembering things wrong or does that time seem reasonably close to what owners of the MCS have been experiencing? I'm very curious.

Below is a link to the MINI portion of the article.

Looking forward to hearing about owners experiences as well as which mods had the most dramatic effect on performance.

Thanks in advance.

no your not remembering wrong.. The stock S can do 15.5 basic and 15.7 fully loaded with sun roof. Ive had both versions and have ran them on the track. IF the guy running the car left the DSC/ AST on even modded he would get around 15.7 due to the power restrants of the equipment. Hey not everyone knows you can turn that thing off.

I have that issue right here in front of me...I found it odd too that they couldn't get a faster time. Also, if you look in the back of the issue you'll see the statistics for just about every car sold in the U.S. and their performance figures. The stock Cooper S ran a 15.5, go figure.

My modified MCS,with less mods than the one in the article can do 14.8 with the 17"runflats,and a weak driver at the wheel.

If you read the prolog on page 48 column 3 paragraph 2:
"..., we included our standing-start acceleration time for 0-60 mph and quarter-mile speed and elapsed time, which were plucked from the car's quickest overall run. ..."
These are "raw" numbers and not corrected
