I was just at the bookstore this eveing and I noticed that the latest issue of Car and Driver (US) featured a shootout of 10 modified 4cylinder cars. Among the primarily Japanese combatants was a MINI Cooper S.
For those of you wondering, the MINI came in third place overall.
My question for everyone out there came about after reading the test results for this particular MINI. Specifically, this particular car was only able to generate a 1/4 mi. time of 15.7 seconds in spite of the fact that it featured numerous engine mods that allegedly bumped the ponies up to 245 hp.
Now I realize that a number of factors effect track times including air temp., humidity, fuel, driver etc. but I guess I expected something better out of such a heavily modified machine. I thought I remembered reading somewhere the test results of a stock MINI Cooper S and I seemed to recall the 1/4 mile time being 15.7 seconds as well.
Am I remembering things wrong or does that time seem reasonably close to what owners of the
MCS have been experiencing? I'm very curious.
Below is a link to the MINI portion of the article.

Looking forward to hearing about owners experiences as well as which mods had the most dramatic effect on performance.
Thanks in advance.
