Electic Blue S My MCS after 1100 miles

Well. I've done 1100 miles in the MCS now, and I'm very very happy. Pushed the revs up to 5000 in 5th last weekend, felt like that's what the car was meant for! Here's some things though that are on my mind:

1. Yo-yo in first gear (if that's the right phrase). At first I thought it was me getting used to the gearbox, but it actually seems that there's something wrong with high revs in first. It can't still be me after a month can it? It just jumps/jerks once (mostly, not always) when putting my foot down, and it can't be my fault

2. tracking - slightly off, tugging a bit (not a lot) left. Easy fix, or normal behaviour?

3. do I need an oil change after 1000 miles?

4. The *&%^ dealership never call me back, they haven't sorted their error with the black interior, they haven't sorted tickets for the Italian Job (despite me asking), they haven't told me how I go about visiting the factory (despite me asking twice). Any advice? Speak to the sales manager? I'm thinking a walk-in rather than calling, and giving them a chance. Mountain <> molehill, etc

Any advice guys?

Hello !

In answer to your questions

1. I have it to after 5,000 miles, but only when I first pull away, it never does it otherwise, its a recognised fault that a fix is being developed last I heard its out in around four weeks.

2. Mine does that too, but not that noticable, keep meaning to tell my dealer but keep forgetting !.

3. I was going to but as i'm two and a half months and 5,000 miles showing now kinda missed the boat !!

4. I have the same problem, walking into the dealer has worked great for me in the past, especially if they've got people in the showroom ...

BTW nice car !, almost the same spec as mine apart from the white wheels and DSC.... plus I just added black JohnCooper signature decals to the front stripes....

Congrats on 1100 miles! We both have about the same miles on our cars as ours just passed 1100 as well.

1. Ours has the stumble when moving off from rest, slight but noticable. Drivability seems to be the big issue with these cars and according to the BMW representative I talked to they are well aware of it and we can expect to see fixes coming. The Mini reputation (and future sales numbers) hang in the balance. We're thinking about buying a standard Cooper as a second commute car but BMW can forget that until the stumble is eliminated from our MCS.

2. Our car steers straight on a flat road with no cross winds. Sometimes a pull one way or the other can be chalked up to road, wind or tyre conditions.

3. I changed our oil at 1034 miles. Replaced the factory oil with Mobil One and used a factory oil filter. Regardless of what some people have posted here and on other forums I like to do an early oil change to remove any debris left over from the manufacturing process as well as anything floating around after the initial run-in. I consider it cheap insurance and see this as a way to help the engine last longer.

4. I agree with northhandy on this. Discuss it in a loud voice with other customers around. Great idea! If all else fails contact BMW directly.

After 1100 miles we love our car and have had no problems except for the driveability issues. Too bad BMW couldn't have gotten it right from the beginning.

Happy motoring!

I have trouble getting them to call me back too. Funny, all I get from BMW friends/associates is "nothing can touch them". A trend perhaps?

I picked my MCS EB/W up 2 weeks ago, already done 1100 miles due to Belgium run but I have exactly the same probs as you.

1. Has judder when pulling away
2. Pulls to left at any speed, even in Belgium with road camber going to right it pulled left
3...
4. Ordered half leather Black/Blue interior - got all black.

With ref to 1 and 2 plus a rattle in the gear shift , the dealer is sorting out next week.

With ref to the interior the dealer was more than apologetic and offered to :-
1. Replace the entire interior or
2. Recover the seats with Black Blue all Leather
3. Give me freebies to compensate

I opted for the freebies - front spots, clear rear lights and six cd changer all fully fitted that was ontop of over £100 worth of freebies when I collected the car, so if I were you I would walk in there tomorrow and demand what you want, if they screwed up they are responcible to put it write or compensate. Also I was told by the dealer that the salesperson is pay is based on what score you give them when MINI phone you asking you how your dealer served you, so if you have not yet had that phone call then you can also mention that to the sales manager at your dealers. Good luck and get it sorted ASAP....let us know how you got on

Thanks Steely. I must sort it this coming week. Still, I got the gold bar in the post on Saturday, cool!

I did another couple of hundred miles this weekend, and noticed that if I leave off the pedal in 2nd, as it drops low in revs there's a bit of a stutter in the gears. Anything to worry about you reckon?

I would get it sorted asap with your dealer...the more of us that complain about this the better chance we have of getting BMW to come up with a fix, plus you didn't buy a car at that price just to have it splutter every where did you, I'm sure I didn't. You could spend £6k on a Ford (spit) KA and I bet it won't splutter. I know it sounds like I am moaning and after my dealer has served me well but I want the car to run correctly the same as everybody else, so do yourself and the rest of us a favour and get your dealer to look at it.
