United-States burning smell is it me?

just picked up my 04 MCS yesterday and I love it. No problems. but when I stop driving it, I smell a burning - is this the new clutch being worn in or am I overusing it? or is it some other new car thing?

probably just the oils used on the exhaust, some funky smells are just part of having a brand new car and will go aaway in time.

I have the same smell with my 04 MCS.
I thought I was burning clutch at first, but then I realized it was coming from around the rear wheel area. Therefore, the "oil on exhaust" theory sounds possible. I am just out of break-in, but the smell is still there. It is not as strong though.

Calm down people, this is normal on a new car. Just enjoy your cars, please!

Agree it's normal, and will go away, can't remember when mine went away, but I love the "ting, ting" of the exhaust as it cools after a good run.

Reminds me of a turbine engine cool down!!

I had it for about a month with my new MCS...then it finally began to fade. I don't think it's any big deal, even though I don't recall having any smells that intense with my last new car.

New car "smells"

It's a good idea to get to know the various "frargrances" eminating from any car. Each aroma is rather unique: a burning clutch is pretty much unmistakable although may smell like the brake pads after a hard stop.

Fluids like motor oil (synthetic or organic) are somewhat similar as well. Electrical aromas (the scariest kind, IMHO) are altogether different.

Of course, we all know what fuel smells like.

All of this is good to know so you can recognize a problem before its too late.

We called them, "MINI farts," as they will come & go, some more powerful than others.

After a mildly hard drive..

Mine tends to smell like burning rubber from the front, and this is w/o me actually burning the tires.. I wonder if I'm getting some belt slip?

burning smell is it me?

Have you checked yet? Are you on fire?

Seriously, mine was the same for the first week or so.
My Rabbit was the same way after putting on it's last
cat-back exhaust, so I blamed the assembly paste I
used, and the newness of the parts getting quite hot
for the first time. Not to worry.

I am relieved too, I thiought I was burning the clutch--this is my first manual-trans car. It has started going away. I have only had the car for five days. I was beginning to think that I it has stopped because I have become a better driver. I am just glad this is normal and shouldn't come back again!
