I've noticed that the TLC pack comes with some kind of loosly worded disclaimer about not covering wear and tear items such as brake pads and 2nd brake fluid change.

What is everyones experience of TLC ? Have you walked away from any services nursing a large invoice for additional work ?

The cynical part of me says this is how they can offer TLC for £100........by robbing you blind with these other bits and bobs.

Hopefully I'm wrong !

And if they do charge for brake pads, do they also charge for the labour involved in fitting them, or is this covered by the TLC ?

Thanks,

Neil

Well, for me the golden rule with putting a car in any garage is to tell them to contact you before hand if they recommend any additional work. You should always get a price up front for any work done as well.

If you require work such as brake pad replacement then you would have to pay parts & labour.

I understand that with the TLC you only have to pay for parts on wear and tear items and not the labour.

Of course you have to pay for parts and labour in wear and tear items - how could any manufacturer predict how fast someone is going to wear out brake pads and the like - some of us on here have lead feet. The TLC covers parts and labour for normal servicing plus a second year brake fluid change - and pretty good value it is too.

Smile TLC it's worth it !

Hi Neil, our MC at work has now done 40k and has had 2 services including oil & filters,

The car has been returned washed and vacuumed each time.

So averaging £50 per service from a BMW dealer thats good, we haven't seen a bill for it yet.
They also have supplied a courtesy car both times and carried out any recall work or updates at the same time.

I'm picking up my own MCS on 1st March and it has got the TLC pack !

Regards

Mark.

The TLC is well worth it.

Had my car for nearly 18 months and iv only had to pay for wiper blades and Mini were actually cheaper than the motorists discount store plus they fitted them for free while i waited. They have replaced most of the bulbs around the car now as well and iv even got them to replace the rear number plate because it got a little bit discoloured at the top.

The best bit is i didnt even buy the car from the garage, i bought it second hand when it was a year old. Dont worry got my S on order though.... roll on April 19th!!!

TLC - are you then tied-in to BMW dealers maintenance too

Waiting for my MCS (due 10th March), and have specified TLC, but am interested to clarify whether you're tied-in to the BMW dealer chain for all maintenance as well?... If I get another garage to do a between-scheduled-service filter change (for example), or change the pads, will that invalidate TLC and/or the warranty?

The cynic in me thinks there must be a 'catch' to what appears to be a really good servicing deal. Or may be I'm 'looking a gift horse in the mouth'??

TLC is a servicing pack and nothing to do with warranty apart from not getting the car serviced within the dealer network "may" invalidate warranty.

Getting someone else to do work should not affect warrranty as long as you used MINI specified parts.

double check in your warrenty and TLC booklets that came with the car. I remember reading in there somewhere that all work has to be done by Mini or an approved Mini garage otherwise they cant offer the TLC / warrenty. If you cant find it there its worth asking the garage.

If i were you i would take your car to the mini garage. They have done loads of work on my car and never charged me a penny for it. As far as i know there is no catch!

TLC been a boon so far on both our shand Cooper, and the new mcs. its already paid for itself.
It must be a good idea as a few of the other manufacturers are doing similar things now.
