United-Kingdom Idling away...

Hi all

Just taken my new MCS out for a spin (1 week old, 250 miles done...plenty more this weekend!! )

As I sat at some lights I noticed it sounding a bit 'throaty'...Oh, thats new, i thought and that's it...

At the next set of lights it was worse and i actually put the window down to see if it was coming from the 4x4 behind me...couldn't really tell...

When I got home I left it idling and got out to have a listen and my god, it really does sound like something's struggling - can't tell if its gas from the auto A/C, engine struggling in neutral, difficulty sucking air through the scoop or if this really is the sound the engine should be.

I've owned an MC for a year before this so am prepared for it to be a totally different engine, but could anyone tell me if this is what I should expect or is it time for a trip to the dealer (already )...sorry, its so difficult to describe noises online but a diesel engine is the closest I can explain it...

Can anyone help

Thanks in advance
S-G

Hmmm, I'd say it has a fairly throaty sound at idle speed, but certainly nothing that I'd compare to a diesel!!!

I'd had my MCS for about a month when I experienced something similar. When idling, the car was suddenly very noisy...and revved upwards of 2500rpm - without foot on pedal. Initially I thought the engine sounded "throatier", but very quickly it became apparent it was worse

I took MINI to the dealer who diagnosed the problem as a split pipe leading to an air leak into induction system...took them three days though to diagnose/fix. Everything has been fine since though

Think you should give your dealer a call ....good luck!

If its idling above 1200 rpm then there is defintely something wrong. SPlit hose is the prime candidate so get that baby back to the founders...better safe than sorry!
