Unhappy Help, Bonnet scoop nut sizes

Hi,

As we have actually had a day with quite nice weather I decided to to a little clean up of my car. After doing the usual washing and cleaning I remembered apost a long time ago mentioning that somebody lost theit bonnet scoop as the nuts came undone holding it in place. I go to look at mine and 2 are missing from the front!

Does anybody know what size these nuts are as I dont really want to rish the whole thing flying off.

Thanks for any help

TTFN

James

Ring BMW and they should fix it for you if the car is still covered by the Warranty. They also give your car back nice and clean inside and out :-)

Maybe the dimension across the wrench flats on the nut is 8 mm.
The thread size may be 5 mm (M5).
These parts fell off of my car also, I am not sure about the size, but I think
that they are M5.

Just had a quick looka at my MCS and found that both nuts have gone :-( They look a bit small for M5, probly more like M4. Will find out tonight as my dads going to bring a selection of nuts and washers home from work. I will post again as soon as I find out what size they are :-)

OK just put 2 shiny new nuts onto my Bonnet scoop. The Size is you will need is M5. I don't know bout other people but only 2 of the 4 nuts had come undone. I have now used a large washer followed by a spring washer all done up with a nylock Nut so hopfully these will not come undone again. It looked like the original nuts had come lose due to the plastic getting comppresssed, The spring washer should take up any slack in the nut and bolt caused by the plastic getting compressed. :-)

I hope this helps

Simon

Thanks very much for all your replies, I managed to get the nuts from halfords. Worked a treat, didnt wanna take it all the way to BMW as they may notice the airfilter which I will change back before the next service!

Thanks again

James

This post would have been handy on the weekend for me! My friend and I didn't know the size and kept buying a nut, returning it, buy another, returning it... then we thought for a minute... METRIC! Eventually we found the proper one... now we just need to put them on....

My problem usually has more to do with the nut behind the steering wheel (sorry, couldn't resist).

Check Your Nuts

After a 3,000 miles road trip, I checked mine this weekend only to find one gone and two very very loose (like worse than finger tight) . Now that I know it is a metric M5 size, that explains why the 10-32 thread castle nut wouldn't grab.

Early is on time; On time is late.
