Brakes are pretty good, but not brilliant.

I've found brakes in other cars to be better (e.g. Volkswagen)

Welcome to mini2.

Please see the technical link near the top of every page, it answers your question on brake sizes. Cooper S tech specs are at http://www.mini2.com/technical/coopers.php

They felt good on my test drives, and have felt quite sharp from the passenger seat on drive days

Got to say I think the brakes on my MCS are just about OK, but not brilliant, certiainly not as good as some previous cars I've had. I've not got in touble or danger, but had a few occasions when they've not exactly inspired confidence whilst 'pressing on'!

After the 25,000 miles I've done they are also getting very gridy, and I also suspect I've got a warped disc at the front. Next service is in about 3000 miles, so I'm going to get it checked then, although I suspect it's going to cost me pads and maybe discs

The brakes on out Cooper S don't bite like some other cars but they hold strong and true. They definitely have the stopping power for street use. They have very little fade on the street as well but I haven't raced so I don't know how they hold up on the track.

FYI. I found mine worked better after doing a proper bedding in process. Even though I didn't find out how to do this until I had almost 10K on the car.
Added teflon flex lines as well, they made a nice change too.

I totally agree with you

However now that I've got a MCS with x-lites as opposed to s-spokes I've not encountered problems. I think the additional unsprung weight of the s-spokes really effect brake performance.

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime
